i v <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE N0. 80- 55 <br />PAGE 9. <br />(C) The total area of all permanent types of service and <br />industrial signs shall be determined in accordance with <br />standards set forth in Section 1221.04. The total area <br />of the visible surfaces of the industrial signs for each <br />establishment shall not exceed one (1) square foot for <br />each lineal foot of the building frontage. <br />(D) Flat or wall signs projecting signs and pole signs in <br />limited industry districts shall be located in accord <br />with regulations set forth in Section 1221.Oi6. Ground <br />signs shall be located in accord with the side yard <br />regulations and to maintain the same setback as for <br />buildings, except one ground sign not exceeding forty <br />(40) square feet in area may be permitted for each <br />establishment at not less than twenty-five feet (25') <br />from the street line. <br />1221.08 Signs in a Mixed Use District and Motorist Service District <br />Signs in a Mixed Use District and Potorist Service District <br />shall conform to that section of this Chapter dependent upon the use <br />made of the premises and, if such premises are unoccupied, then as <br />permitted by Section 1221.05. <br />1221.09 Supplementary Regulations <br />There is hereby established Supplementary Regulations relative <br />to this Chapter, which regulations shall be as follows: <br />(A) General Location - Any sign shall not project over or <br />o struct t e required window or doors of any building, <br />attached to or obstruct a fire escape or interfere with <br />other safety provisions as may be further regulated in <br />the Building Code. <br />Unless regulated otherwise in the Traffic Code, signs <br />-shall not be erected so as to obstruct traffic control <br />lights, signs at street intersections, sight lines within <br />street lines, or signals at railroad grade crossings. <br />(B) Prohibited La__n~uage - Signs visible from the sight lines <br />wit in street Ines shall not contain an arrow or words <br />such as "stop", "go", "slow", or otherwise resemble high- <br />way traffic signs. <br />(C) Illumination of Si ns - Light sources to illuminate signs <br />s~ia 1 e re lecte and shielded and not be of excessive <br />brightness or cause glare hazardous to pedestrians or <br />auto drivers or be objectionable to adjacent Residential <br />Districts. The colors red or green, either in direct <br />illumination or reflection, shall not be used where it <br />may interfere with the sight ~.ines of a traffic signal. <br />Flashing, moving, or intermittent illumination and <br />"outline lighting" shall not be permitted by right; the <br />Board may, however, make a~finding and permit such lighting <br />as a Conditional Use; if such permit is granted, the <br />maximum area of signs shall be reduced by one-half (~). <br />Signs in Residential Districts shall not be illuminated, <br />except for nameplates, subdivision developments and, for <br />bulletin boards for institutions. All signs in business <br />and industrial districts may"be illuminated. Illumination <br />of parking lots and used car lots shall not be of excessive <br />brightness or cause a glare objectionable to any adjacent <br />Residential District and except for illumination required <br />for safety purposes, such lighting shall be permitted only <br />during the hours the establishment is in operation. <br />Christmas display lighting shall not be restricted by the <br />foregoing regulations. <br />
