. ~ CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ORDINANCE N0. 80- 51 PAGE 3. 165.04 DUTTES OF LANDMARKS COMMISSION. In addition to requirements specified elsewhere in Chapter 165, the Landmarks Commission shall have the following responsibilities and duties: (a) The Commission shall conduct a continuing survey of all sites, buildings, structures, works of art, or similar objects, in the City of North Olmsted that are culturally, socially, economically, politically, architecturally, educationally, or historically significant. (b) The Commission shall work for the continuing education of the citizens of North Olmsted with respect to historical and architectural heritage of the city and the landmarks designated under the provisions of this chapter. It shall publish and keep current a register of all landmarks. (c) The Commission shall be authorized by Council, to accept the services on a permanent or part-time basis, of technical experts or such other persons that may be required from time to time. (d) The Commission shall maintain an archives for city records and other historical documents. 165.05 DESIGNATION OF LANDMARKS. (a) In considering the designation of any si e, building, district, structure, work of art or significant object as a landmark the Commission shall apply the following criteria: (1) If it typifies a significant example of the cultural, economic, social, .environmental, architectural, or heritage of the City of North.. Olmsted, or; (,2) If it is identified with a historical event or person who contriUuted to the cultural and growth of the City of North. Olmsted. (b) The Commission shall designate official landmarks using the following procedure: (1) A nomination for landmark designation may be made by the commission members the owner, or any resident of the City of North Olmsted. The nomina- tion shall include a photograph, rationale and historical data. (2) The Commission shall accept the nomination and vote to accept or reject the nomination for study and evaluation. (3) The chairman shall appoint member(s) to prepare a documented report on the nominated site includ- ing a history, property description, site map, photograph(s) and eventual placement of the plaque. (4) The complete report shall be presented to the Commission. (5) The Commission shall advise the City Planning Commission of the nomination and request a written statement concerning its recommendation as it relates to the Comprehensive Plan of North. Olmsted.
