ARfICLE 15 - PAID SICK LEAVE <br />Sectian 'i. A fui!-time employee who has carrrplefed his probatianary period shall be granted <br />sick leave for personal iliness or injury as follows: <br />(a) Paid sick leave shali be earned and accumu}ated at the rate of one and one <br />fourth (1 1/4) days for each month; <br />(b) Pay far sick leave sha(( be at the ernployee's straight time hourly rate (or portion <br />thereof if absent for fess than a full day); <br />(c) If an employee is absent an sick leave for more fihan three (3) consecufiive work <br />days, the City sha(I require the employee to present medical avidence that the <br />employee was under a doctor's care and is able to return to work The City will <br />review the attendance records of empfoyees periodically and at ieast once in <br />each three (3) month period. ff the City beiieves fihat an employee is developing <br />an attendance probiem, the City wifl notify the employee in writing that medical <br />evidence will be requirad for absences of fhree (3) days or fess. When an <br />emp(oyee's record becomes satisfactory, the requirement for such medicai <br />evidsnce for short term absences wili be removed, and the employee will be <br />notified in writing. <br />(d) Employees may use up to fifteen (15) work days per year of earned and <br />accumulated sick leave if necessitated by i(Iness in the empfoyee's immediate <br />famify. For purposes of this subsecfion, "immediafe family" shali be interpreted <br />to be spouse, children, parents of the empfoyee, regardless af the p[ace of <br />residence; and other relatives iiving within the househofd of fhe emplo.yee. <br />(e) When an employee with five (5) or mare years of senrice refires having received <br />P.E.R.S. pension, dies, or takes disabi{ity retirement and has accumulated sick <br />leave time, the retiring employee rnay convert one-half (112) of the accumulated <br />sick (eave time (with the Cify of North Oimsted) to pay on the basis of his rate af <br />pay at fhe time of retirement but the maximum amaunt paid shall not exceed <br />One thflusand (1,000) hours. <br />(f) An employee should make an effort to schedule medical and denfal <br />appointments for himself and his family members during non-working hours. <br />Section 2. Consistent wifh the just cause standard in Articfe 30, the City may discip(ine or, if <br />appropriate, discharge an employee for abuse of sick leave or the patterned use of sick leave <br />(Ex. repeafed Mondays, Fridays, or days after payday). <br />Sectivn 3. Sick leave shall not be paid to any ful!-time employees which exceeds forty (40) <br />hours in a normal work week as defined in Articfe 10, Secfions 1 and 2, of this Agreement. <br />Sectian 4.
