ARTICLE 17 - LAY-OFFS <br />Section 1. Whenever it is necessary for the City to reduce its forces, the employse within the departmsnt <br />to be reduced will be laid off in the following order: <br />(a) Students; . <br />(b) Part-time and Seasonai employees; <br />(c) Empioyees wha have not completed their probationary period; <br />(d) Regular fuli-time empfayees within the classification affected who have completed their <br />probationary period; <br />(e) fn the appfication of the foregoing employees will be retained by reason of their seniority <br />onfy if they are able to perform the available work. <br />Secfion 2. Regu(ar Full-time employees shail be laid ofF on the hasis of their seniority within fiheir <br />classification. When the seniority or service af two (2) or more empioyees is equal, employees shall be laid <br />ofF by the drawing of lots. In the event an employee cannot hoid his present classification, he sha11 have <br />the right to "bump" an empioyee with lesser seniority in an equal or lower rated classification within the <br />City, provided the employee has the abiiity to do the work of the classification. <br />Section 3. A regular fuli-fime employee shall be given a minimum of two (2) weeks aclvance notice of <br />layoff far lack of work. <br />Sectian 4, fn the event an employee is laid off for lack of work, he shall receive payment for any earned <br />but unused vacation as quickly as practicable, but no later than faurteen (14) caiendar days after the fay- <br />ofr. <br />ARTiCLE 18 -RECALL FROM LAY-OFF <br />Sectian 1. Employees shalf be reca(led to fheir cfassification in accordance w'rth seniarity or to other jobs . <br />they are qualified to perform in accordance with their seniority in the reverse order of their lay-off. An <br />employee on lay-off wiil be given seven (7) calendar days' notice of recall from the date on which the <br />United States Postal Service makes the first afitempt to de(iver the recaii natice by certified mail to the <br />empioyee's last known address as shown on the City's records.
