Specifications
of entire impeller assembly, including wear rings and bearings from beneath the pump,
without disturbing pump piping or the mounting of the pump in the chassis.
Pump shall have one (1) double suction impeller. The pump body shall have two (2) opposed
discharge volute cutwaters to eliminate radial unbalance.
Pump impeller shall be hard, fine grain bronze of the miaed flow design, accurately machined,
hand-ground, and i.ndividually balanced. The vanes of the inlpeller intake eyes shall be hand-
around and polished to a sharp edge, and be of sufficient size and design to provide ample
reserve capacity utilizing minimum horsepower.
Impeller clearance rings shall be bronze, easily renewable without replacing impeller or pump
volute body, and of the wrap-around double labyrinth design for maximum efficiency.
Pump shaft shall be electric fun7ace, heat-treated, con•osion resistant stainless steel, to be
super-finished under packing with ?alvanic corrosion (zine separators in packin?) protection
for loncrer shaft life. Pump shaft must be sealed with double oil seal to lteep road dirt and
water out of drive unit.
Pump shaft shall be rigidly supported b_v three (3) bearings for ininiinum deflection. A h1'2h
lead bronze sleeve bearing to be located iii7znediately adjacent to the impeller (on the side-
opposite of the drive unit). The sleeve bearing shall be automatically oil lubricated design and
pressure balanced to exclude foreign material. Tlze remainina bearings shall be heavy-duty,
deep groove ball bearings in tlie -earbox and shall be splash lubricated.
MECHANICAL SEAI, ON PUMp
Only one (1) mechanical seal shall be required on the suction (inboard) side of the pump. The
inechanical seal shall be two (2.00) inches in diameter and shall be spring loaded,
maintenance-fi-ee, and self-adjusting.
The inechanical seal coiZStruction shall be a carbon sealing riilg, stainless steel coil spring,
V"iton rubber boot, and a tunasten carbide seat with a Teflon backup seal.
PUMP TRANSMISSION
The drive unit shall be cast and coinpletelN? manufactured and tested at the pump
manufacturer's factory. The pump drive unit shall be of sufficient size to withstand up to
16,000 foot/pound of torque from the enQine in both road and pump operatinu conditions.
The drive unit shall be designed with ample lubrication reserve to maintain the proper
operating temperature.
The gearbox drive shafts shall be of heat treated chrome nickel steel and at least 2.75 inches in
diameter, on both the input and output drive shafts. They shall be designed to withstand the
full torque of tl7e engine in both road and pump operating conditions. All aears, both drive and
pump, shall be of the hiQhest quality, electric furnace, chrome nickel steel. Bores shall be
ground to size and teeth integrated, crown-shaved and hardened, to give an extremely accurate
c,ear for long 1ife, smooth, quiet running and higher load carrying capability.
