means of one-half (1/2) inch fire resistant gypsum board or equivalent <br />applied to the garage side. Garage and carport floor surfaces shall be of <br />approved noncombustible material. That area of floor used for parking of <br />automobiles or other vehicles shall be sloped to facilitate the movement of <br />liquids toward the main vehicle entry doorway or directed to a floor drain <br />with an approved sand trap connected to the sanitary storm system. <br />11. 309.2 Detac hed Gara¢e~ ended): <br />(a) ~e_ig ~ No detached garage shall be in excess of 15 feet in height to the <br /> peak of the gable. <br />(b) Mas onry construction. Masonry detached garages shall have foundation <br /> and wall requirements the same as set forth for one-story dwellings in <br /> Chapter 4. <br />(c) Woo d -Frame Consion. A one-story garage, more than 15 feet from <br /> a dwelling, built of wood frame construction, shall comply with the <br /> construction requirement for one-story dwellings with the following <br /> exceptions: <br />i. Bottom of footings of framing garages shall be not less than 36" <br /> below finished grade, unless supported on a reinforced concrete slab <br /> as provided in the following pazagraph. <br />ii. Frame garages may be built on a concrete slab, not less than 4-inch <br /> thick, reinforced with steel mesh weighing not less than 40 pounds <br /> per 100 square feet or equivalent reinforcement turned up to a 4-inch <br /> width curb, 8 inches high above finished grade to form a wall <br /> foundation. <br />iii. Studs shall have a spacing of not more than 24 inches o.c. Doubling <br /> of studs shall be required on jamb openings 3'-6" wide or more. <br />iv. Sheathing and building paper may be omitted if full height 45 degree <br /> corner let in bracing is used and studs are placed 16 inches on center. <br />v. Corner post may be two 2x4's or a 4x4. <br />vi. Top plate may be single, provided rafters are placed directly over <br /> studs, and plates at corners are lapped to provide ties. <br />vii. Rafter ties at eaves maybe 2x4's with a maximum spacing 6 feet o.c. <br />viii. Corner bracing may be applied on the inside of surface of studs. <br />ix. Bottom plate shall be treated lumber. <br />12. Sec. 309.3-Floor Surface (Deletedl. <br />13.
