Section 7. In determining the time periods provided for underthe grievance procedure, the <br />initia( day of the operative event shall be exciuded and the required number of days shail then be <br />computed successively, exciuding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. <br />Section 8. A policy grievance is de#ined to mean a grievance in which a controversy has <br />been raised, the nature of which, if not resolved wiH affect the entire hargaining unit or members <br />within the bargaining unit who havs a commonaiity of interest in the outcome af the grievance. <br />Such policy grievance shall be filed within the time constraints established in Section 2, Step 1, <br />of this Articie, and shaii be heard on a Step 3 level of the grievance pracedure. <br />ARTICLE 8- PROBATIONARY PER10D <br />Section 1. New employees shall be considered to be on probation for a period of One <br />APW <br />Hundred and Eighty (180) calendardays. During the probationary period; discharge orsuspension <br />by the City shali not be subject to the grievance procedure. <br />Section 2. If any employee is discharged, retires, or quits during the probationary period <br />descdbed in Section 1 above, and is later rehired, he shail be considered as a new empioyee and <br />the subject to the provisions of Section 1. <br />ARTICLE 9- SENiOR1TY <br />Section 1. Only regular fuN-time and regular part-time employees af the City shaU have <br />seniorify. Students and summer employees shaii have no seniority rights. A regular part-time <br />employee is one that works more than twenty (20) hours per week, but less than forly (40) hours <br />per week on a regular basis.
