(b) Pay, for sick teave shail be at the employee's straight time haurfy rate (or portion <br />thereof if absent for tess than a full day); <br />(c) if an employee is absent on sick teave for more than three (3) consecutive work <br />days, the City shall require the employee to present medical evidence that the <br />empioyes vrras urtder a doctor's care and is abis ta retum to work. The City wii( <br />review the attendance records of employees periodicaily, and a# least once in <br />each three (3) month period. If it believes that an employee is developing an <br />attendance problem, it wiit notify the employee in wribng that medical evidence <br />will be required for absences of three .(3) days or less. When an employee's <br />record becomes satisfac#ory, the requirement for such medical evidence for <br />short term absences wi1l be removed, and the employee wiil be notified in <br />writing. <br />(d) Employees may use up to fifteen (15) work days per year af eamed and <br />accumulated siek Ieave if necessitated by iilness in the empiayee's immediate <br />family. For purposes of this subsection, "immediate family" shatl be interpreted <br />to be spause; children; parents of the employee, regardle.ss of the place of <br />residence; and o#her relatives living within the household of the empioyee. <br />(e) When an employee with five (5) or more years of seivi.ce retires, having <br />. received PERS pension, dies or takes clisability retirement and has <br />accumulated sick Ieave time, the retiring employee may convert one-half <br />' (1/2) of the accumulated sick leave time (with the City of North Olmsted) to <br />pay on the basis ofhis rate ofpay at tb.e time of retirement, but the maximum <br />. am.ount paid shall not exceed nine hundred and sixty (960) hours. Employees <br />hired after July 1, 1998, and have accumulated sick leave with another political <br />subdivision wM transfez said sick leave and shall use the transferred sick leave <br />prior to sick leave accumulated while employed with the City of North Olmsted. <br />Sick Ieave carry over from another politioal subdivision shall not be used to <br />calculate an employees buy-out pursuant to the above. <br />(f) An employee shoutd make an effort to schedule medicai and <br />dentai appointments #or himself and his family members during <br />non-working hours. <br />(g) Sick leave taken the day prior to or the day after a scheduled <br />vacation or holiday wiil require a medicat excuse prior to approval for payment. <br />Section 4. Parentat Leave: All emplayees shall be entitled to parental leave of absence <br />upon the birth or adoptian of a chiid.
