<br /> <br /> <br />ARTICLE 27: SAFETY AND HEALTH <br />Section 1: The City and the Union recognize that each party <br />must comply with the applicable state and federal laws with <br />respect to safety and health. The City shall continue to make <br />reasonable provisions for the safety and health of its employees. <br />A. Required personal protective equipment shall <br />be issued to regular full-time employees and <br />shall be replaced ff the equipment is worn out <br />and is returned to the City for replacement. <br />? <br />? <br />An employee who does not return the equipment will be charqed for <br />the replacement cost, except in cases, <br />(1) In which the equipment was destroyed <br />by accidental conditions beyond the <br />employee's control in the work area, or <br />(2) If the equipment has been stolen and <br />the City has failed to supply the <br />employee with a place to lock up his <br />equipment. <br />B. A safety committee consisting of the Service <br />Director and his designee and two (2) safety <br />representatives appointed by the Local Union <br />shall confer at reqular monthly intervals, if <br />necessary, for the purpose of attempting to <br />maintain safe workinq conditions for employees <br />in the Bargaining Unit. Additional meetinqs <br />may be held if required by unusual circumstances. <br />The Safety Committee shall have the authority to <br />deal with safety procedures, safety and sani- <br />tation problems, and shall decide upon the <br />protective equipment to be used under Paragraph <br />A. <br />Section 2: In the event an employee reasonably believes <br />that a situation is unsafe, the employee shall notify his <br />supervisor immediately. The supervisor shall investigate the <br />situation on the same day or as soon as possible thereafter, and <br />take such steps as are necessary to remedy the unsafe condition. <br />36
