Qrdinance No. 3158 <br />Pa,ge 2 <br />(j) "Sanitary Sewa,ge" shall mean sewa;e discha,rging from the sanitaxy <br />conveniences of dwellinge (includi:ng apaxtment house$ and hotels , <br />offiee buildings, factories or institutione, and fres from stoxm, <br />surface water and industrial wastea. <br />(k) "Garbage" shall mean solid wastes from the preparation, cooking <br />and dispens3ng of food, and from the handling, atorage aad sale <br />of produce, and such wastes shall be so shredded to a degree that <br />all particles thereof will be earrieel freelv under the flow <br />conditions normally prevailing in public sewers and with no <br />particle of such garbage or wastes greater thatz 1/2 inch in a-ay <br />dimension. <br />(1) "Huilding Drain" shall mean that part of the lowest horizontal <br />pipi.ng of a drai.nage system which receives the discharge from aoi1, <br />waste, and other drainage pipes inside the wa].ls of the building <br />and conveys it to the building aewer, beginning 3 feet outside the <br />cuter surface of the building wall. <br />(m) "Buildi,ag Sewer" shall meau the extension from the building drain <br />to the pub2ic sewer or other place of disposal.. <br />(n) "B.O.D." (Denoting Biochemieal Oxygen Demand) ahall mean the quantity <br />of oxygen utilized in the biochemi.cal oxidation of orgat.zic matter <br />under standard Iaboratory praeedure in 5 days at 20° C., exprsssed <br />in parts per million by weight. <br />(o) "pH" sha11 mean the logarithm of the reciprocal of the weight of <br />bydrogen ions in grams per Iiter of salutiori. <br />(p) "Suspended Solids" shall mean solids that either fl.oat on the surfaee <br />of, or are i.n euspeneion in water, sewage, or other liquide; an.d <br />which are removable by laboratory filtering. <br />(q) "Natural Outlet" shall mean any point of diseharge into a watercourse, <br />pond, ditch, lake or other body of surfaee or ground water. <br />(r) "Perscn". "EnterpriseE", "Establishmerlt", or "Owner" fihall me8n 8x3,y <br />individual, firm,company, association, soeiety, corporation or group. <br />(s) "Sha.l.l" is mandatory; "May" is permissive. <br />(t) "City Engi.neer" referred to herein i.s the Engineer of the City of <br />North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />(u) "Watereoursep shall mean a channel in which a f1oW of water occurs, <br />either eontinuously or interma,tteut2y. <br /> <br />?e???;: _ ,???•?,? , , ?z. +?. ??r???.? r ?,.?, ...,. ,.,: , ? ?-
