CHIEF OF FIRE <br />Rule 1. - The Chief of Fire shall be the executive head of the Fire <br />Department. He shall @irect all of the activities of the department? <br />He sha11 have the exclusive right to station, transfer or assign th.:, <br />members of the department. <br />He shall, when required, make written reports to the Sa.fety Director <br />furnishing him with detailed accotznts of the activities of aZZ or any <br />part of the department. <br />Ae shall pramulgate such orders from time to time as in his judgment <br />are needed to maintain discipline, decorum and dignity. <br />The Chief shall have exclusive right to suspend any officer, employee <br />o-r fireman for incompetence, gross neglect of duty, gross immorality, <br />habitual drunkenness, failure to obey orders given by the proper author- <br />ity, or for any other reasonable and just cause. In the event of the <br />suspension of any employee in the Fire Department, the Chief shall <br />-forthwith certify such f act in writing, togetner with the cause for <br />such suspension, to the Director of Public Safety. The Director of <br />Public Sailety shall within five days from the receipt ther.aof proceed <br />to inquire into the cause of such suspension and render jti-ffgemer..t <br />thereon. Such judgement, if the charge is sustained, may be either <br />ouspension, reduction in rank, or dismisal from the department, and <br />such judgement shall be final except as otherwise provided by 1aw. Tize <br />Director shall have all those powers conferred upon him by -Section <br />737-12 Rc. <br />oFFZCERs <br />Rule 2. - Officers shall report in writing, within twenty four hours to <br />their Chief any inattention to duty, neglect or other violation of the <br />rules and regulations by subordinates. They will be held responsible <br />for the proper performance of firemen under their supervi8ion. <br />Rule 3• - In case of fire, riot or other emergency, they shall immediatel; <br />send information of the same to the officer in command; and, in the mean- <br />time, they should take such action as the emergency may require. <br />Rule 4e - Officers shall instruct and assist the firemen in the discharge <br />of their duties. <br />GENERAL RULES FOR SUPERIOR OFFICERS <br />Rule 5. - For the purpose of this book of rules, superior officers are <br />the Chief of the Fire Department, Assistant Chief and Lieutenant and <br />their authority sha11 be cansictered in the order enumerated. <br />Rule 6. - They sha11 obey all orders, set an example of eobriety, skil.i•: <br />discretian; industry and promptness to all men under their command? <br />They shall at all times appear neatly attired and clean in tY:eir per.son <br />and equipmento <br />Page l. <br /> <br />
