Page 2. <br />Rule 7. Commanding officers must command. They must never do what <br />should be done by officers or men under them; but see that their men <br />do their duty, each in his place, promptly making clear and strong <br />charges against them for failure. <br />Rule 8.- Officers shall not leave the city during their toar of duty <br />without permission of 'I.-he officer in command, except in case of <br />emer$ency departmental business. All reports by officers must be in <br />writing and addressed to the officer in command who shall forward same <br />through regular channels to the Chief of Fire. <br />RADIO <br />AM-k Rule 9. - The fireman in charge of a radio equipped car, when so ordered <br />by the dispatcher, shall proceed to the place ordered by the shortest <br />route. As soon as possible after arrival, consistent with good work, <br />it sha11 be the duty of such fireman to inform the radio dispatcher of <br />the nature of the complaint and such other facts as are necessary. <br />HEALTH <br />Rule l0e - The Chief of Fire or officer in command is authorzzed to <br />excuse any member of the Department from duty because of sickness or <br />disability. <br />Rule 11. - The Chief of Fire shall require of every member of the <br />Fire DeAartment who absents himself from duty because of sickness or <br />injury to present a certificate from the attending physician, giving <br />a diagnosis and the probable duration of such incapacity, except in <br />those cases where the injury or illness is minor and does not involve <br />more than two working days. <br />-- Rule 12e - The Chief of Fire shall make a report, whenever-.in his <br />opinion, the salary of a member absent frvm duty because of sickness <br />_ or injury should be withheld during such absence. <br />THE GEPTERAL RULES FOR DUTIES AND CONDUCT <br />Rule 13. - Each member of the Department will be furnished with a copy <br />of the rules and regulations which they shall, at all times, keep in <br />their possession. Each member shall make himself thoroughly familiar <br />with its contents. <br />Rule 14. - Each member of the Fire Department is expressly prohibited <br />from engaging in any other calling or employment without first procuring <br />through the Chief of the Fire Department the written approval of the <br />Director of Public Safety. Each application for such approval shall <br />be in writing, shall be filed in duplicate with the Chief of Fzre and <br />shall set forth in detail the nature of the proposed employment, the <br />nanf'e and address of the employer and the estimated number of hours per <br />day proposed to be devoted to such employment. Althou$h the mem.bers <br />of the Department are assigned certain regular hours of duty, yet they <br />are required to renort for duty at any other time or times immedia:ely <br />after notice that their services are required. Members of the Depart- <br />ment are considered to be on duty at all timeU for purposes of discipline. <br />
