Page 60 <br />Rule 42. - Whenever any member of the Department shall answer any public <br />or department telephone, he shall dzstinctly state his name and rank. <br />Hule 43. --ghen any call shall come into the department asking for the <br />Chief of the Fire Department or other member of the Department and that <br />person is not in his office, tize call will be switched to one of the <br />superior officers, or an attempt shall be made to obtain the name of <br />the caller so that proper attention may be given the call. <br />Rule 44, - Any officer having an accident while operating city property <br />shall give immediately a complete detailed report to his superior officer, <br />together with names of witnesses and other necessary informationo <br />Rule 45. - A11 operating automobiles must observe all traffic regulations <br />except that in answering emergency calls when approaching traffic lights <br />which are red in the direction in which they are proceeding, they will <br />slow down, and if the crossing can be made in safety, proceed. <br />Rule 46. - All sha11 first get permission from his superior officer a8 <br />;o the time and place for getting his lunch, in order that he may be <br />called in an emergency. <br />Rule 47. - A Superior Officer shall conduct the roll call at the commence- <br />ment of each shift and shall read to the members under his command, aIl <br />reports of a fire or emergency nature and other reports which in his <br />judgment should be brought to the attention of the members under his <br />command. <br />_?ule 48. - No member of the Department while traveling in uniform upc>n <br />free transportation shall occupy a seat in a public conveyance ';o the <br />exclusion of a paid passenger. <br />Rule 49, - A member of the Department shall treat as confidential, the <br />official business of the department with which he is acquainteci. He <br />sha.ll impart it to no one, except those for whom it is intended, or <br />to others authorized by the Chief of the Fire Department. <br />Rule 50. - When the national anthem is being played, all members oi the <br />Department present in uniform, will stand at attention and salute and <br />remain at salute until the blaying stops, tiā¢ahen a flag of the United <br />States is carried in a parade or procession past a member of the force <br />in un-; ' form in a street or public place, ear_h member will stand a± <br />atten-uion anl salute, in the manner in which he would salute a <br />officer, che salute to be given when the flag arrives within six paces <br />and until the flag has passed six paces beyond such member. No excuse <br />-ill be taken for disobedience to this rule unless the member is on <br />urgent auty at the time which makes such action inadvisable. - <br />Rule 51. - llhenever any member of the Department becomes iz-?volved in <br />litigation to which the City is, or is likely to become a party because <br />of the official acts or conduct of such member, it shall be the duty <br />^f such member to report in writing promptly to the Chief of the Fir- <br />Department al)_ factc pe.r.+.aining to the cause of the action, <br />
