That all full-time sworn employees of the North Olmsted Police <br />Department, excluding secretarial, clerical help, and dispatchers, shall be <br />entitled to certain holidays during the year and shall not be required to work <br />on these holidays, unless scheduled to work by the Chief of Police. In the <br />event the employee either works or was not scheduled to work for reasons other <br />than holiday leave on one of the following holidays, then the employee shall <br />receive another day off from work to replace the holiday he worked or was not <br />required to work for reasons other than holiday leave. The scheduled holidays <br />are as follows: <br />New Year's Day; President's Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; <br />Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Day; Veteran's Day; the <br />employee's birthday; and the employee's personal use day. This <br />provision does not apply to Auxiliary Police or School Guards. <br />The holiday schedule for full-time secretarial and clerical help shall <br />be in accordance with the ordinance establishing same. Dispatchers shall be <br />entitled to the same holidays as full-time sworn employers as specified herein <br />with the exception of Veterans Day which shall not be considered a paid holiday <br />for dispatchers. <br />J. That all full-time employees of the Police Department shall be entitled <br />to an annual vacation in accordance with the following schedule: <br />1 to 5 years inclusive of full-time service: Two Weeks <br />6 to 11 years inclusive of full-time service: Three GJeeks <br />12 to 19 years inclusive of full-time service: Four Weeks <br />20 years and over of full-time service: Five Weeks <br />For the purpose of a vacation week, a week shall be defined as seven (7) <br />consecutive days off. Al1 vacation time shall be paid at the regular salary rate. <br />If due to scheduling, vacations taken in the year earned and are accumulated and <br />taken in the next subsequent year, the rate of vacation pay shall be the rate of <br />pay during the year taken provided the same is first approved by the Safety Director. <br />K. That for purposes of this Ordinance a work day is defined as a continuous <br />eight (8) hour period and a work week is defined as forty (40) hours. <br />L. That effective January 1, 1977, all full-time sworn employees with the <br />exception of the Chief, the City of North Olmsted shall pay employees time and a <br />half (lz) their regular rate of pay for all hours required to be worked in excess <br />of the work day or week as defined in Paragraph K hereof. However, no employee <br />shall be paid at an overtime rate for time spent while pursuing educational endeavors, <br />mandatory schooling required by law or internal programs instituted by the Chief of <br />Police relating to changes in the Revised Code or the Ohio Uniform Rules of <br />Criminal Procedure. It shall, however, be appropriate to pay the overtime rate <br />to employees who participate in specialty programs requiring training at times <br />other than the employees' regular tour of duty and further that said programs have <br />been designated by the Chief of Police as one for which the overtime rate will be <br />paid. <br />M. Any employee who qualifies for overtime by virtue of the provisions of <br />Paragraphs K and L hereof shall be paid a minimum of two (2) hours when required <br />to report for extra duty over and above his regular work day and work week. Said <br />employee shall also be paid a minimum of two (2) hours for appearances at the Rocky <br />River Municipal Court and a minimum of four (4) hours for appearances before the <br />Grand Jury or Common Pleas Court when the same is required and is at a time other <br />than the employee's regular work tour. The compensation for the aforesaid hours of <br />credit will be at a rate of time and one half (12) of the employee's regular rate <br />of pay. <br />N. Any time a patrolman is required to temporarily take charge of a shift <br />command, said patrolman shall be paid a premium of one additional hour at a straight <br />time rate for each day he is required to do so.
