In the case of death, resignation or dismissal of any member of the <br />Department, all department property shall be immediately returned to the Chief <br />of Police by the Officer in charge. <br />Rule b$, No member of the department shall be absent from duty, unless in case <br />of sickness or diability, without permission from the Chief of Police or his <br />Commanding Officer who shall determine that his absence will not hinder the oper- <br />ation of the service. No pay for lost tame will be allowed except ~s herein <br />provided. <br />(a) Full pay will be allowed for the annual vacation, as provided elsewhere. <br />~;~ <br />(b) When a member of the Department is absent from duty by reason of sickness <br />or injury, he may be allowed full pay for lost time upon the certificate of the <br />attending physician, stating the nature, cause and circumstances of the sickness <br />or injury, approved by the Chief of Police, provided, however, that no member <br />of the Department who has been fined extra hours of duty or loss of furlougr! or <br />vacation days as a penalty for the violation of any rule or rules governing the <br />Department, shall be allowed pay for time lost on account of illness in the period <br />during which such penalty is being enforced. <br />NOTE: It is to be understood that the mere fact of sickness or injury does not <br />necessarily justify the allowance of full pay. <br />Rule 69. Any member of the force who is taken while off duty, and is unable to <br />report for duty, shall notify the officer in charge at least one hour before <br />time for him to report on duty, by teleph~~ne or otherwiseo <br />Rule 70. No pay will be allowed under Section (b) of Rule 68 if the sickness <br />or injury is feigned, simulated, exaggerated, or arises from negligence, caxeless- <br />ness, vicious conduct, excessive indulgence of appetite, or other intemperate <br />habits; or from illegal or immoral practices; or if the sick or injured officer <br />shall fraudulently, by Concealment, false statement, or otherwise, seek to deceive <br />or mislead the attending physician in relation to his case; or if the alleged sick- <br />ness or injury is unaccompanied or una,ssociated with objective symtoms; or if the <br />officer shall not remain at his residence, unless permitted by the Chief to go <br />elsewhere; or if he refuses or neglects to conform to the instructions of the at- <br />tending physician, and in addition thereto, he shall be subject to the penalties <br />prescribed by these rules. <br />Rule ']1. Employees and unclassified members of tre Department of Police shall <br />receive vacations as prescribed by the Director of Public Safety. <br />Rule 72. The Chief of Police may allow a member time off with pay, not to exceed <br />three days, on account of death in the family, of his mother, father, brother, <br />sister, wife or child. In all cases where more than three days are required the <br />member shall make application to his commanding officer in writing to have his <br />vacation days advanced to cover the emergency. <br />Rule 73. No person, not a member of the Police Department, sha].1. be permitted to <br />communicate with any prisoner charged with a felony or other serious offense, be- <br />tween the hours of IOsOC P. M. and 8sOp A. M. without permi9:aion of the Chief ~f <br />vaxr. <br />Police. <br />
