CHI C~ <br />Rule 1 -The Chief of Police shall be the executive head of the Police Depart- <br />ment. He shall direct all of the actiKtiee of the depart~asnt, enforce aL1. <br />laws and ordinances and maintain the peace and d3~+.ty of the City. He shall <br />have the exclusive-right to station, trsnsfer~, or assign the members of the <br />department. <br />The Chief of Police shall prescribe the regulation uniforms to be worn by the <br />department. <br />He shall, when required report to the Mayor and furnish him with detailed ac-- <br />counts of the activities of all or any part of the department, the results ob- <br />twined and Shalt make such suggestions as will tend to increase the efficiency <br />of the service. <br />He shall proaaulgate such orders from time to time as in his ~udgunent are needed <br />to maintain discipline, decorum and dignity. <br />The Chief of Police shall have the exclusive right to suspend from duty for <br />hoaxing by the Mayor, any officer or patrol,man9 and every such suspension <br />shall imm~ediately be reported to the Director of Public Safety, or he may de- <br />prive the aforesaid officer or patrolman of furlough or vacation days or sus- <br />pend him temporarily from duty or repri~nan3 any of the said officers or patrol, <br />men of the department for any violation of any rule of the department or ir~- <br />struction given by the proper office, or far such conduct as would be deemed <br />detrimental to the best interests and the general morale of the department. <br />SERG~ S <br />Rule 2. Sergeants shall. report to their Chief, any inattention to duty, neglect <br />or other violation of the rules and regulation by subordinates. They will be <br />held responsible for the proper performance of patrolmen under their supervision. <br />Rule 3r In case of fire, burglary, riot or other emergency, they shall immedi- <br />ately send information of the same to the officer in command, and in the mean- <br />time take such action as the emergency may require. <br />Rule !~ Sergeants shall instruct and assist the patrolmen in the discharge <br />of their duties,. <br />GEIJFitAL RULES <br />FC~t <br />SUPERI~ 0 FICE~iS <br /> <br />Rule 5. for the purpose of this book of rules, superior officers are the Chief <br />of Police;''Sergeants of Police; and their authority shall be considered in the <br />order enumerated. <br />Rule 6. They shall obey all. orders, set an example of sobriety, skill, discre- <br />tion, industry and promptness to all men under their command. They shall at all <br />times appear neatly attired and clean in their person and equipment. <br />Rule 7. When a crime of any importance hae been committed, it shall be the cffity <br />of the officer in charge to personally investigate it and take such further action <br />
