,~ <br />customary salute which must in all cases, be immediately and respectfully re- <br />turned, <br />Rule 38. No form of gambling or of card playing shall be permitted in the station <br />or on the premises of the Police Department. <br />Rule 39. No revolver or other firearm shall be discharged within the premises <br />of the station house yard, except in case of necessity, and then only in such <br />manner as not to endanger persons or property. <br />Rule 40. No person, not a member of the Departments shall have access to any <br />official document or report, unless the same shall have been previously examined <br />by the officer in charge thereof, and given to such person under and by <br />the authority of said officer. <br />"~ Rule l~l. No member of the Department shall make a false report, or gossip, con- <br />cerning a member of the Department either as to his personal character or con- <br />duct, or the business of the Departments to the discredit or the detriment of <br />any member of the Department.. <br />Rule lN2. Whenever any member of the Department hears of or secures any knc~ledge <br />as to the violation of any law or ordinance i.*~ a~~,y place whatsoever within the <br />limits of this city, he shall immediately fc*~~rard a report in writing through <br />his coas~tanding officer to the Chief of Police, <br />Rule t~3. All communications sent to other Police Departments on public business <br />shall be sent by the Chief of Police, or by and with his consent, and all matters <br />coming to this Department from other Police Departments shall be addressed to <br />the Chief of Police and shall be given to the proper officers with .instructions. <br />They shall be returned by such officer to the Chief of Police, with a report <br />in writing of the action taken. <br />Rule trl;. No member shall communicate, except to such persons as directed by his <br />superior, any information respecting orders he may have received or any regula- <br />tion that may be made for the goverrmlent of the Police Department. <br />Rule 1~5. Members will avoid all religious or political discussions. They shall <br />not interfere in, nor make use of the influence of their office in elections, but <br />may quietly exercise the right of suffrage, <br />Rule 46. No member of the Department may belong to any military company, nor <br />serve on a jury, nor be a member of or representative of any political or parti- <br />san convention, or be connected with any club or other association or organization, <br />whose objects or purposes may have reference to the nomination or election of any <br />candidate for office, or for the purpose of giving any social entertainment what- <br />soever amongst the members of the Police Department. He shall not solicit or <br />contribute money or other things of value to any person, committee or association <br />or organization for political purposes. Nor shall there be an association, <br />organization or club within the organization of the Police Department, except <br />that permission is hereby specifically granted to all members of the Department <br />to join and pay dues to The Fraternal Order of Police. No member shall sell any <br />tickets or solicit any funds whatsoever without the permission of the Chief of <br />Pol:i.ce, <br />Rule k7. Members of the force desiring promotion, transfer or assigr~aents to <br />particular duti®s, are free to make their desires known through the proper chan- <br />~. nets; and at suitable times, members in person will. be received by the Chief of <br />
