_6.. <br /> <br />-;~. <br />Police at his office. But should a meaaber cause anT person not his superior <br />on the force, to intervene or to make representation in his behalf to the <br />Chief of Police or to any superior officer, or to members of the City Council, <br />personally or by letter or petition, he shall be deemed guilty of conduct un- <br />becoming an otfieer.~ No meter of the Police Department shall. willfully contact <br />arty member of the Executive or 7.e~islative, branch of the gov®r~ent of this City <br />without the express consent of the Chief of Polio, with the view of having that <br />person intercede for him in matter relating to the Police Departments He <br />shall not be held responsible for such action by another, except when there is <br />good reason to believe that he is concerned in it, or instigated it. <br />Rule l}$. No member of the Department either while on or off duty, shall draw <br />his pistol on any person, or use his baton or commit any assault and battery on <br />any persons unless for self protection or in urgent cases, <br />Rule 49. Members are prohibited frogs recommending to prisoners, or to the vic- <br />tims of accidents, the employment of any person or attorney or counsel, and are <br />forbidden to name any lawyer or other person to a prisoner with a view to his <br />defense at arty time. <br />Aule 50. Members must see to it that when prisoners are retzarned to prison after <br />being out on bail, that they are again sea:~ctzed with a view to taking frown them <br />any property in their possession, which would be dangerous or which could. be <br />used to deface the prison. <br />Rule 51. No member of the department shall become bail for ar~Y person arrested, <br />nor eoagnunicate to any person any information which would enable him to escape <br />arrest or punishment, or enable him to dispose of or secrete any valuable thing <br />stolen or embezzled. <br />Rule 52. No member shall directly or indirectly be concerned in r~caeking env com- <br />promise or arrangement between thieves, or other criminals and persons, who have <br />suffered by their acts, with a view of permitting the criminal to escape the <br />penalties provided by law. <br />Rule 53. Members of the Department must not render any assistance in civil cases <br />except to prevent an ismnediate breach of the peace or to quell a disturbance ac- <br />tually commenced. <br />Rule 5~.. Members of the department axe enjoined, and it is made their duty, to <br />report all special policemen found violating any law of this State or ordinance <br />of this City or for any conduct unbecoaning an Officer and a gentleman. <br />Rule 55. If any meanber of the Department observes, in the street, anything of a <br />dangerous character, or which is likely to occasion public inconvenience, or any- <br />thing which seems to him irregular or offensive, he shall at once remove it if <br />practicable, or have it removed and report his action thereon to the Department. <br />Rule 56. Officers or members will not be permitted to accept money or other <br />things of value from anyone who has been arrested and is in their charge. <br />Rule 57. Each member of the Department in his conduct and deportment, must be <br />quiet, civil and orderly. In the performance of his duty he must maintain de-- <br />corum, alertness, command of temper, patience and be discreet.
