Council Minutes of 02-04-2014
The BZD Committee met Tuesday January 28, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Present were
committee members Schumann and Barker; Council members Brossard, Hemann,
Kearney and Limpert; Mayor Kennedy, Law Director Gareau, Planning/Development
Director Wenger and guests.
• Discussed was the property located at Great Northern and Al Moen Drive. This
lot is the last large undeveloped parcel in the city and is subject to restrictions
placed upon it by a court order. Wenger explained, and Gareau reinforced, that
this was a unique situation and the opportunity for Council to have an up-front
impact. Gareau laid out the mechanics of getting the court order altered to allow
for a change of land use. Wenger introduced Rob Benjamin from Heritage
Development and George Kimson of Aloft Cleveland Downtown. These
gentlemen presented a plan for a 135-room hotel, a 5,000 square foot restaurant
and a Progressive Insurance claims office. Some members of Council feel that
the claims office would be better placed elsewhere in North Olmsted; perhaps a
better use for the remainder of the parcel can be found. As there was no plan or
legislation before Council, no vote was necessary. The meeting was adjourned at
7:45 p.m.
The BZD Committee met Tuesday February 4, 2014 at 7:10 p.m. Present were
committee members Schumann and Barker; Council member Kearney, Mayor Kennedy
and Planning/Development Director Wenger.
• Discussed was CMS13-43 Collection Auto Group M1 Auto Campus. They
presented improvements to both Mercedes and Porsche campuses, as well as
additions to both buildings. The committee voted 2-0 to recommend approval of
CMS13-43.
Councilman Schumann made a motion to approve CMS13-43 Collection Auto Group MI
Auto Campus improvements subject to recommendations of the Planning and Design
Commission including a perimeter of concrete curbing. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Barker and passed unanimously. CMS 13-43 approved 7-0.
Councilwoman Hemann, Chairwoman of the Intra-Governmental Relations Committee:
The Intra-Governmental Relations Committee met Tuesday January 28, 2014 at 8:06 p.m.
Present were committee members Hemann, Kearney and Limpert; Council President
Jones; Council members Barker, Brossard and Schumann; Mayor Kennedy.
• The committee met to interview Donald R. Glauner for the position of Safety and
Service Director for the City of North Olmsted. He was recommended by Mayor
Kennedy out of approximately 10 candidates who submitted resumes and whose
qualifications were given consideration. The committee voted 3-0 to recommend
the appointment of Glauner to the position of Safety/Service Director. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
Councilwoman Hemann made a motion to approve the appointment of Donald Glauner to
the position of Safety/Service Director for the City of North Olmsted.
