For more <br />information, visit gonortholmsted.org. <br />• On April 30, 2014, Sandie Agresta retired from the City of North Olmsted having <br />worked most recently in the Building Department. He thanked her for years of <br />service to the community and wished her farewell as she relocates to South <br />Carolina. <br />• North Olmsted Police Officer, Jack Justice, is doing better and is now home. He <br />thanks all of the residents and city employees for all of their help and prayers that <br />have helped him through this tough process. His fundraiser is May 9, 2014 at St. <br />Clarence at 6:00 p.m. <br />• Having completed the training on MARCS radios, this will be implemented on <br />May 12, 2014. <br />• The city has hired a new police officer, Hasim Welch -Bey, who will be sworn in <br />on May 20, 2014. <br />• The Service Dept. has hired six seasonal part -time employees, and the WWTP has <br />hired two seasonal part-time employees. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• He gave an update as to some decisions that he has received in various matters <br />that were set for arbitration. In the matter of AFSCME vs. the City of North <br />Olmsted, which concerned a pay dispute by WWTP employee Tom Gerrick. The <br />City of North Olmsted was successful in this case and the grievance was denied. <br />Another grievance that involved the Fraternal Order of Police was related to pay <br />that was allegedly owed as a claim by virtue of an on the job injury. The city <br />denied that and the arbitrator ruled in favor of the FOP and police officer in that <br />case. There was another case involving the FOP and reimbursement of sick days <br />to an officer. That case was sustained. <br />• In the case of the motor vehicle accident involving the City of North Olmsted <br />Lydia Thomas vs. the City of North Olmsted, this was referred to the city's <br />insurance defense counsel and a lawsuit was initiated. The case was dismissed on <br />April 29, 2014 and the matter is now settled. <br />Director of Finance Copfer: <br />• No report in the absence of Finance Director Copfer. <br />Councilman Barker, Chairman of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee: <br />The Safety Committee met Tuesday May 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Present were committee <br />members Barker, Williamson and Brossard; Council President Jones; Council members <br />Hemann, Kearney, Limpert and Schumann; Mayor Kennedy, Safety /Service Director <br />Glauner; Planning /Development Director Wenger and guests. <br />• Discussed was Ordinance 2014 -28 which is an Ordinance amending the Traffic <br />Control File of the City of North Olmsted to provide for the removal of all <br />overhead turning lane signage and simultaneous replacement of same with <br />roadside pole signage on Lorain Road in the City of North Olmsted and declaring <br />an emergency. On the west end of the city, there are poles that extend above the <br />street lanes with signs that designate the two through lanes and the center turning <br />lanes. One of these were lost due to an accident, and ODOT rules do not require <br />2 <br />
