Council Minutes of 05 -07 -2014
write to him and he said absolutely. Mayor Kennedy said clearly the streets in every city
took a hard hit this year because of the freezing weather and amount of salt used. Bartick
said Barton Road has been like that for a long time and nothing's being done. Mayor
Kennedy said he will look into it and get back to her with a response.
Pat (last name not audible) resident of Cinnamon Woods. She asked what they are going
to do with the northeast corner of Lorain Road across from GetGo with all of the empty
storefronts. Is this going to be torn down? Mayor Kennedy said it's a privately owned
building. The only thing the city can do is to make sure it's maintained properly. The
city does not rent the building and cannot knock it down. If it violates one of the city' s
Codes, they will be cited. He does not know what their plans are. Gareau asked for
clarification on exactly where the building is located. He said he recalls communication
awhile ago regarding the lot between the car wash and the empty building on the corner.
The city had actually pursued them because an old auto body building was in there and
was falling apart. The city pursued them to get them to demolish it. He believes one of
the impediments to developing that area is that they believe that was an exceptionally
valuable piece of property. Mayor Kennedy said years ago a drugstore was looking into
buying that entire piece of property including what's behind the building, but, that never
happened. There has been an unbelievable surge of storefronts being filled in North
Olmsted, and he couldn't agree more that it would benefit everyone if the building she is
referencing is filled or redeveloped. She asked if the city could get after them to do
something with the building. Mayor Kennedy said they are a private building owner and
if they don't want to rent it, they are losing out on the money.
LEGISLATION
Resolution 2014 -25 introduced by Mayor Kennedy was given its third reading.
