Council Minutes of 5-2-2017
Bruce Bruehler
4440 Root Road
Mr. Bruehler stated his wife and him voiced their concerns during the Ganley property
hearings that during the relocation of the creek, roots on trees would be cut and as a result
the trees would die. He said the creek has been redirected and while he admits they did a
great job on landscaping, the problem is no one checked on damage to the trees during
the reconfiguration. He said he was recently notified there are four trees which are now a
safety hazard because the roots were cut. Mr. Bruehler said now everything is done and
those trees are 15 feet from his property. He wants the issue addressed because they are a
safety hazard to his property and family. He is frustrated because the trees should have
been taken down before the creek was finished. On another issue, he stated he enjoys
fireworks and is glad the City has brought back its firework show. His concern is people
sit on both sides of Brookpark Road. During the show, cars are still allowed to drive on
Brookpark Road. He said the people driving by are watching the fireworks and someone
will get hurt or killed. Mr. Bruehler said he wants to see Brookpark Road shut down as it
won't hurt businesses as there are other entrances.
The Mayor responded that he will address the tree issue tomorrow morning.
Mike Zalar
2669 Butternut Ridge Road
Mr. Zalar is the Superintendent of North Olmsted City Schools. He wanted to express
gratitude and thank the City Council, Mayor and Director of Planning and Development
Wenger for helping get the project through the various permitting processes. He said now
that Phase III is finished and the basic permits are in place, it enables the school to get the
project out to bid and keep everything on schedule. He wanted to reiterate the Board's
intention is to continue working with the residents of North Olmsted, in particular those
residents who have properties surrounding the new campus. He said it is a complicated
site and he appreciates the time invested in asking good questions and being critical of
the process. Improvements have been made to the design based on the feedback heard.
Superintendent Zalar is very confident this process will improve the area in a number of
ways. He pledged the schools will continue to work in what is the best interests of the
City of North Olmsted moving forward.
LEGISLATION
Ordinance 2017-32 introduced by Mayor Kennedy on behalf of himself, Council
President Jones and Councilman Schumann and was given its third reading.
