24.6 Employees elected or appointed by the Association to represent the Association may be <br />granted up to four (4) twenty-four (24) hour shifts per year for attendance at regular and special <br />meetings, state and national conferences and/or worker's compensation seminars, with the <br />approval of the Fire Chief, which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. It is understood <br />that the attendance will not be approved if it will incur overtime, at the time the approval is <br />granted. Additional time may be granted at the sole discretion of the Fire Chief. <br />ARTICLE XXV HOURS OF WORK <br />25.1 The basic work week for Line Personnel assigned to platoon duty shall be an average of <br />fifty and four -tenths (50.4) hours. <br />25.2 Employees assigned to Fire Prevention duty shall work a forty (40) hour week. <br />25.3 Twenty-four (24) hour shifts shall commence at 0700 hours in accordance with the <br />Normal Work Schedule. <br />25.4 In order to facilitate the work week of fifty and four -tenths (50.4) hours, Line Personnel <br />shall be entitled to additional time off with pay, known as Kelley Days. All Kelley Days shall be <br />taken during the year of entitlement, shall not accrue from year to year, and shall be selected by <br />the Employer. <br />25.5 The Employer shall annually provide each employee with a ten (10) shift cycle schedule <br />and indicate the ten (10) shift cycles in which the Employer has scheduled his Kelley Days. <br />25.6 To alleviate scheduling problems, Kelley Days shall be taken as scheduled. Kelley Days <br />shall be scheduled by January 1 of each year, and shall not be rescheduled for any reason without <br />approval of the Fire Chief. <br />25.7 Any change in shift assignment other than for Light Duty shall, except in an emergency, <br />require the Chief to provide seven (7) days written notice to any affected employee indicating the <br />beginning and expected end, if any, of such change. <br />25.8 Employees shall have the right to exchange hours when, in the opinion of the Shift <br />Officer, such changes do not interfere with Fire Department operations. All such changes are <br />subject to the approval of the Fire Chief. No Overtime shall be allowed and no additional cost is <br />to be incurred by the Employer due to such changes unless shift change was approved prior to <br />any class being scheduled. <br />ARTICLE XXVI LIGHT DUTY <br />26.1 The Fire Chief or his designee may at his discretion assign an employee to Light Duty, <br />should an employee be unable to perform his regular job tasks. The employee shall provide <br />upon request of the Fire Chief, medical certification from the employee's physician citing the <br />employee's physical limitations, explaining why the employee can't perform his regular job task <br />25 <br />
