Council Minutes of 4-3-2018 <br />Mr. Wang said he was here three weeks ago regarding this issue. He stated he is <br />continuing to have issues with his neighbors along with the Building Department and is <br />asking the City to help resolve the issues. <br />Gwen Jarvis <br />23303 Lorain Road <br />Ms. Jarvis said she is the spokesperson for Mom's Demand Against Gun Violence. She <br />said the group advocates against open carry. She said people think Mom's Demand <br />Against Gun Violence is to promote people not having guns, but their mission is to <br />promote education of guns. She said their mission is to promote gun safety because there <br />are more people being killed in the home because of guns not being secured safely, <br />versus everywhere else. Ms. Jarivs said on the 22nd of April at the library Mom's Demand <br />Against Gun Violence is going to have a meeting and they would like to have people <br />from North Olmsted. She also said they are looking for facilities to have meetings about <br />the need for gun safety. <br />Mayor Kennedy said to e-mail him and he would pass it around and to see if the City <br />could help find some meeting space for the group. <br />Councilman Glassburn asked what time the meeting was going to be at on April 22nd. Ms. <br />Jarvis responded it will be at 2 p.m. at our library. <br />Terry Groden <br />25211 Chase Drive <br />Mr. Groden said he is attending on behalf of the North Olmsted School District Board of <br />Education. He said they are encouraged and appreciative to see on the agenda the <br />proposed support for the school district's recently pass resolution regarding school safety. <br />Mr. Groden said the Board of Education is seeking assistance from state and federal <br />legislators to help enhance the school district's mental health services and to increase <br />school safety mechanisms, including the possibility to get more school resource officers <br />in the schools. He said they are also looking for additional training opportunities for <br />school personnel. Mr. Groden thanked Council for introducing this legislation. <br />Mr. Groden reminded Council he spoke on February 20 to share information about recent <br />advocacy efforts. He said he is happy to report Congress passed and the President signed <br />the Fiscal Year 2018 legislation providing for a $2.6 billion dollars increase in <br />Department of Education funding. This includes a $275 million increase in IDEA grants <br />and a $75 million increase for Perkins Career and Technical Education grants. <br />LEGISLATION <br />Resolution 2018-26 introduced by Mayor Kennedy was given its third reading. A <br />Resolution authorizing the Director of Planning and Development to advertise for bids <br />for the award of a contract to provide construction services for the 2018 Sidewalk <br />Program, as detailed in the specifications on file with the Division of Engineering, and <br />authorizing the Mayor, following approval of the Board of Control, to contract for the <br />3 <br />
