Council Minutes of 4-3-2018
Mr. Wang said he was here three weeks ago regarding this issue. He stated he is
continuing to have issues with his neighbors along with the Building Department and is
asking the City to help resolve the issues.
Gwen Jarvis
23303 Lorain Road
Ms. Jarvis said she is the spokesperson for Mom's Demand Against Gun Violence. She
said the group advocates against open carry. She said people think Mom's Demand
Against Gun Violence is to promote people not having guns, but their mission is to
promote education of guns. She said their mission is to promote gun safety because there
are more people being killed in the home because of guns not being secured safely,
versus everywhere else. Ms. Jarivs said on the 22nd of April at the library Mom's Demand
Against Gun Violence is going to have a meeting and they would like to have people
from North Olmsted. She also said they are looking for facilities to have meetings about
the need for gun safety.
Mayor Kennedy said to e-mail him and he would pass it around and to see if the City
could help find some meeting space for the group.
Councilman Glassburn asked what time the meeting was going to be at on April 22nd. Ms.
Jarvis responded it will be at 2 p.m. at our library.
Terry Groden
25211 Chase Drive
Mr. Groden said he is attending on behalf of the North Olmsted School District Board of
Education. He said they are encouraged and appreciative to see on the agenda the
proposed support for the school district's recently pass resolution regarding school safety.
Mr. Groden said the Board of Education is seeking assistance from state and federal
legislators to help enhance the school district's mental health services and to increase
school safety mechanisms, including the possibility to get more school resource officers
in the schools. He said they are also looking for additional training opportunities for
school personnel. Mr. Groden thanked Council for introducing this legislation.
Mr. Groden reminded Council he spoke on February 20 to share information about recent
advocacy efforts. He said he is happy to report Congress passed and the President signed
the Fiscal Year 2018 legislation providing for a $2.6 billion dollars increase in
Department of Education funding. This includes a $275 million increase in IDEA grants
and a $75 million increase for Perkins Career and Technical Education grants.
LEGISLATION
Resolution 2018-26 introduced by Mayor Kennedy was given its third reading.
