Council Minutes of 5-15-2018
Hemann and Williamson; Mayor Kennedy, Director of Safety & Service Glauner and
guests.
• Discussed was Resolution 2018-47. A Resolution authorizing the Director of
Public Service to advertise for bids for rock salt for roadway ice and snow
removal for use by the City of North Olmsted, as detailed in specifications on file
and further authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract with the lowest and best
bidder, after Board of Control approval. Director Glauner noted the one year
contract with our current vendor Crystal Minerals is expiring. The City will
continue our practice of creating our own salt contract outside of the state bid
which allows us to receive the salt as we need it. The Committee voted 3-0 to
recommend to Council.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Charles Dial
27959 Gardenia Drive
Mr. Dial wanted to thank the Service Department and Waste Water Treatment Plant for
their help the day he got back from a trip. He had an issue with sewage in the basement
and as part of the solution, he made arrangements with the Waste Water Treatment Plant
to ensure there wasn't a blockage on the city's end. He wants everyone to know the
Waste Water Treatment Plant did a good job for him. Mr. Dial continued saying this
same day was a very windy day and before his plumber arrived a tree in his tree lawn
blew down blocking the street, sidewalk and driveway. The Service Department came out
right away and chopped the tree up and things ended well.
Mr. Dial also said the Cleveland City Water Department has gone to monthly billing so
they can get three monthly billing service charges rather than one. He said the service
charge is around $11 which is an absolutely absurd number. Mr. Dial would like the City
to keep this filed away and when the opportunity comes up to do something about it, to
raise this issue.
Dan Slattery
6716 Warrington Drive
Mr. Slattery said this past week they discovered the house at 6744 Warrington is going to
be rented out on Airbnb. He said he does not feel it is appropriate for a residential
neighborhood to have transient people in the neighborhood day in and day out. Mr.
Slattery said the house has four bedrooms and is renting each room separately. He also
stated one can rent part of a room and share it with someone else if they want. He said he
thinks this crosses a zoning line. Mr. Slattery asked City Council to research this issue.
He said he also believes Rocky River and other communities in the area are looking at
addressing this same issue.
Mayor Kennedy responded if everyone is up here for the same reason, he would be happy
to setup a meeting with everyone to talk about this.
3
