Council Minutes of 6-26-2018
Councilwoman Hemann Chairwoman of the Environmental Control Committee:
The Environmental Control Committee met on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.
Present were committee members Hemann and Glassburn; Council members Brossard,
Limpert and Schumann; Mayor Kennedy, Director of Human Resources Gallo, Director
of Safety & Service Glauner, Assistant Director of Finance Sperling and guests.
• Discussed was Resolution 2018-70. A Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter
into a contract with Pelton Environmental Products for the purchase of 96 "UV
Lamps" for use in the disinfection process at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. A
brief description was given by Chairwoman Hemann regarding how the UV
Lamps are used. The Director of Safety & Service provided details on how it is a
two-part system that uses a bulb and an outer sleeve. He said the bulbs are more
efficient and a better use of our funds as the alternative is to have the equipment
retrofitted. The committee voted 2-0 to recommend to Council.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
John Parker
25090 Fawn Drive
Mr. Parker said he is a senior citizen who has not had a cost of living adjustment in years
and doesn't foresee any coming in the future. He said it is the third time he has come to a
Council meeting and he has heard Councilmembers say it is just seven dollars a month.
He said seven dollars a month could be the difference between him filling a prescription
or not. He has heard Councilmembers say they want to draw in young families. Mr.
Parker says that is admirable, but asks what it is doing to the seniors in the community.
He said he would love to see the facilities, but he is at a part in life where he has to
choose between what he wants and what he needs. Mr. Parker said what he needs more
than a nice Ree Center is roads that when he drives he doesn't lose a filling. He said it is
a matter of priorities. He said there are plans he feels should be looked at and seniors
should be taken into account.
Cammie Kearney
23630 Mastick Road
Ms. Kearney is concerned about how Mastick Road looks. She said it used to be a
beautiful street going to the park. Now, she said no one takes their garbage cans in and
one lady has had a sheet in her window as a curtain for over a year. Ms. Kearney said
when inspectors do come to inspect the yards, they should get out of the car and come
through on foot and look on the side and in people's back yards to see what other people
have to look at. She said people don't care anymore and no one seems to be doing
anything about it even though the taxes keep going up.
Mayor Kennedy said he would talk with her about this after the meeting.
Ms. Kearney said they also need at least one more street light to help people see the deer
crossing the road at night.
is
