In no event shall the employee be permitted to accumulate vacation leave <br />credit in excess of the vacation leave credit earned in the prior year. Employees shall be required <br />to take, or be paid up to one ( I ) week for such accumulated vacation leave credit within one (I) <br />year from the date the employee requested accumulation of such vacation leave credit. An <br />employee shall forfeit his right to take or be paid for any vacation leave to his credit which is in <br />excess of the accumulated vacation credit for one ( I ) prior year. All such excess vacation leave <br />credit shall be eliminated from the employee's vacation leave balance. <br />10.03 Employees' Planning to Retire: Prior to November I of the year of planned retirement, a <br />tentative established date must be determined to calculate the amount of carry over permitted to <br />equal that which the employee in entitled to based upon years of service. The employee shall <br />notify the Chief of Police a minimum of twelve (12) months prior to the planned retirement date. <br />That portion carried over will be the amount when added to vacation earned in year of retirement <br />equals vacation total for two (2) years. If employee extends pre -established retirement date, that <br />portion of vacation carried over which exceeds amount entitled to will be forfeited, unless there <br />is_just and reasonable cause established by the individual planning retirement and agreed to by <br />the Chief of Police. <br />10.04 All vacation time shall be paid at the regular wage rate, except when employee requests <br />vacation credit accumulation. For the purpose of calculating vacation pay, when vacation <br />accumulation is requested by an employee, the wage rate at the time the vacation was requested <br />to be accumulated shall be used to calculate vacation pay. R due to scheduling, vacations cannot <br />be taken subsequent to the year such vacation was earned and are accumulated and taken in the <br />next subsequent year, the rate of vacation pay shall be at the rate of pay during the year such <br />vacation is taken, provided the same is approved by the Department I -lead. <br />10.05 Vacations must be scheduled with and authorized by the Chief of Police or his designee. <br />Schedules are to be coordinated so as not to disrupt necessary services or functions of the <br />department, <br />
