Council Minutes of 11-20-2018
employees, the City will take action. You can see that over the course of the past
few years where several employees have had multiple infractions and we have
successfully defended their termination. We will continue to do so in the future.
We have high expectations, but they are not unrealistic. The people who work
here should be proud to work here and give of themselves in a way that is
professional and shows respect to the community and administration. He no
longer works here, but I feel he lost the right to do so on his own.
• Regarding the City of North Olmsted v. Alexander Gondeah, the Airbnb case. A
case management conference has been scheduled for November 28 at 10:00 a.m.
The defendants have indicated in communications to the Law Department they
will be ceasing the use of this facility as an Airbnb. The City of North Olmsted
has given them a period of time to wrap up their operation.
• Kaitlyn Kilbane, our Law Clerk for the past several years, will be leaving in
December. She has been a great person to have around and will be missed.
• Finally, good luck to the Ohio State Buckeyes. I'm the eternal optimist, but I must
say I have some serious concerns about this year. Most of you don't know that I
was foolish enough to go watch them play in Purdue this year. I watched three
quarters of football than I got up and left.
Director of Finance Copfer:
• I say ditto to the Director of Law's remarks regarding employees.
• The September 30th, third quarter review will be sent to Council soon.
Councilman Kearney Chairman of the Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings
Committee:
The Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee met on Tuesday, November 13,
2018 at 7:35p.m. Present were committee members Kearney, Hemann & Brossard;
Council members Glassburn, Limpert, Schumann and Williamson; Council President
Jones; Mayor Kennedy, Recreation Commissioner Drenski, Director of Safety & Service
Glauner, Director of Planning & Development Lieber and guests.
• Discussed first was Ordinance 2018-103. An Ordinance authorizing the Mayor to
request proposals for plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and
plumbing preventative maintenance services for the City's Division of Recreation
and further authorizing the Mayor, subject to approval of the Board of Control, to
enter into an agreement with the contractor selected in the RFP process. This
Ordinance was discussed at length and the committee voted 3-0 to hold in
committee.
• Discussed next was Resolution 2018-106. A Resolution authorizing the Director
of Planning and Development to make application on behalf of the City of North
Olmsted for the Cuyahoga County Supplemental Grant Program; further
authorizing the Mayor to accept funds, if awarded, and to execute a contract as
required; and declaring an emergency. This money would be used to build
restrooms at Clague Park. This is part of the 2015 Master Plan which was
discussed in many open meetings. The Administration had hoped it would be
done in conjunction with the recreation levy. Although the levy failed, this is still
needed and the Administration felt this was a good time to apply for the grant.
The committee voted 2-1 to recommend to Council with suspension.
2
