<br />1303. 02 <br />BUILDING CODE <br />8 <br />(d) Windows. <br />(1) Windows, including basement windows, shall be double-glazed or installed <br />with storm windows. <br />(2) Metal windows shall provide a thermal break between the inside and outside <br />surface areas. <br />(e) Doors. <br />(1) Doors shall be insulated with an insulation core, or <br />(2) Doors that are uninsulated shall be installed with storm doors. <br />(Ord. 75-183. Passed 9-2-75. ) <br />1303.02 CAULKING AND SEALANTS. <br />Exterior joints around windows and door frames, between walls and foundations, <br />between walls and roofs, between wall panels, at penetrations of utility services thraugh <br />walls and roofs, and through floors over unheated spaces, and all other openings in the <br />exterior envelope of dwelling structures, shall be caulked, gasketed, weatherstripped or <br />otherwise sealed to prevent air leakage in accordance with Federal Specifications TT-S- <br />001657 - Type 1 or better. <br />(Ord. 75-183. Passed 9-2-75. ) <br />1303.03 VAPOR BARRIERS. <br />(a) All insulation shall be installed with vapor barriers, rated one perm or less, on <br />the warm winter side of the insulation. However, vapor barriers shall not be required ` <br />for top ceilingareas that meet the attic ventilation provisions. <br />(b) Slab floors in living areas and slabs in crawl-space areas shall have vapor <br />barriers rated four mil thickness with a maldmum one perm vapor penetration installed <br />beneath the slab. Passed 9-2-75. ) <br />1303.04 INSTA LLATION. <br />(a) Insulation shall be installed in building sections in a workmanlike manner in <br />order to receive the thermal insulation effectiveness of the manufacturers' deaignated <br />R/numbers on their products. <br />(b) Insulation on all side walls shall be firmly packed without exposures, at both <br />the top and bottom of wall cavities. <br />(c) Insulation shall be chinked fnto all rough windows and door frame openings and <br />covered with a vapor barrier. <br />(d) Batts shall be neatly stapled at least every six inches. <br />(e) Vapor barriers shall not be damaged before the $nal wall finish is installed. <br />(Ord. 75-183.
