Community Cabin: Rentals have been refunded. Any vendor fees collected for
cancelled events have been refunded.
7. What if anything can/is the City do(ing) to help residents and businesses as they
start to go back to work/reopen. The city has posted small business resources on
the website and on social media; we have kept open lines with the Chamber of
Commerce and Great Northern Mall. Business resources are included in the
Mayor's April and May e -newsletters.
8. Has there been any change to the number of ambulance runs experienced as
many people have reduced their willingness to go to hospitals? Yes, for the time
period of 3/22 to 4/20, 2019 EMS runs 261 and 2020 EMS runs 243.
9. As people have been sheltering at home, some disputes among residents
regarding property maintenance and other issues have arisen. With reduced
staffing, what is the capacity for handling complaints and what time -line should be
expected? Ward 1 property maintenance sweeps have been suspended, and
property maintenance inspectors are responding to complaint driven issues that
may pose a safety threat. Citations will be issued as a last resort. We are working
with people using gentle reminders and letters if need be. Our inspectors are out
with reduced hours starting commercial property maintenance inspections.
However, no citations will be issued. A letter will be given to the commercial
owner highlighting violations that they should be aware of. They will be put on
notice that we will follow up in October 2020 depending on the pandemic
situation, and may be issued a citation or given an extension until 2021.
Bulk & Yard Waste Questions:
1. What is the timeline for full restoration of service? All services have been restored
as of Monday April 20tH
2. Will there be any changes to the May bulk pick-up? No, business as usual on May
7th.
3. The three location drop offs were not nearly adequate and were not served
regularly. The three locations should have been adequate if residents would have
followed normal standards. Had we known people were going to throw anything
and everything into the dumpsters, we would have had additional dumpsters
located at the rec center. All the cities in the area that made arrangements for
these dumpsters suffered the same issues. Residents, non-residents and
contractors were throwing bulk that would not have been picked up during normal
bulk pick-up. What was Republic's Response? We were not happy with the
response but were told they were working as quickly as possible to mitigate the
overflow.
4. Why did other cities get restored first? Everyone got restored at the same time,
our yard waste pick-up dates are later in the week (Thursday) and our bulk date
unfortunately was right after the suspension and now is three weeks out before
May 7tH
5. Since we were treated poorly with respect to other communities, is Republic
prepared to compensate for the difference? Because of this unforeseen issue, I
think all cities were treated equally "poorly". It appears that pressure and
threatening to sue Republic is what got the job done The reminder that we had a
