includint,dischar,(4e. <br />ARTICLE 17 LAY-OFFS <br />17.01 Whenever it is necessary for the Frnployer to reduce its forces, the employees within the <br />effected.job classification, within the department to be reduced \w ill be laid off in the folloyving <br />order: <br />(a) Students: <br />(b) Part-time and Seasonal employees: <br />(c) Employees within the effected job classi[ication who have not completed their <br />probationary period: <br />(d) Regular full-time employees yNithin the classification affected who have <br />completed their probationary period: <br />(e) In the application of the foregoing employees yvill be retained by reason oftheir <br />seniority only if they are able to perform the available work. <br />17.02 Regular bull -time employees shall be laid oft on the basis oftheir seniority within their <br />classification. When the seniority or service of two (2) or more employees is equal, employees <br />shall be laid off by the drawing of lots. In the event an employee cannot hold his present <br />classification. lie shall have the right to "buml1" an employce with lesser seniority in an equal or <br />loyver rated classification vvithin the Employer, provided the employee has the ahility to do the <br />\wrk of the classification. <br />17.03 A regular full-time employee shall be given it minimum of two (2) weeks advance notice <br />of layoff. <br />17.04 In the event an employee is laid off, he shall receive payment for any carried but unused <br />vacation as quickly as practicable. but no later than fourteen (14) calendar days after the lay-off. <br />ARTICLE IS RECALL FROM LAY-OFF <br />18.01 Employees shall he recalled to their classification in accordance with seniority or to other <br />jobs they are qualified to perform in accordance vy ith their seniority in the reverse order oftheir <br />lay-off. An employee on lay-offwill he given seven (7) calendar days' notice ofrecall from the <br />date on which the l.nited States Postal Service makes the first attempt to deliver the recall notice <br />by certified mail to the employee's last knorvrr address as shown on the Lniployer's records. this <br />period may be extended by a<orcement betty een the Employer and the Union. <br />
