SECTION 7: All employees shall be entitled to parental leave upon the birth ol'a child or <br />adoption of a child providing said employee is the natural parent ol'the child or is the legal <br />parent ofthe adopted child. The duration ofthe leave shall be at the employee's discretion. Such <br />leave shall not be permitted in less than one ( I ) full day increments. Employees desiring to use <br />such leave in increments of less than six (6) consecutive months shall provide the employer a <br />minimum of five (5) days notice and a schedule listing the day or days the employee \N ill utilize <br />the parental leave benefit. In an} event. such leave shall not extend beyond six (6) months 1'rom <br />the date such ]cave vas first requested. <br />An employee shall be entitled to use vacation Icave or accumulated sick leave credit in <br />lieu of being, unpaid. Fail employee exhausts all accumulated vacation Icayc credit and sick <br />leave credits. said employee shall not be paid nor shall said employee earn sick leave or vacation <br />credits for that period. <br />The 1=:mployer may require at its discretion satislactorN proof such as a certificate ol'birth <br />ol'the child or in the case of an adopted child. a copy ol'the court document auth01-1zing the <br />adoption. <br />SECTION 8: An employee shall accumulate seniority during any leave of absence. C:mployec's <br />on an unpaid sick leave, parental leave, or has exhausted his accumulated sick leave shall not be <br />entitled to any benefits, except hospital/surgical benefits which shall continue to be provided by <br />the Employer for a period of time not to exceed ninety (90) days. Durin(the aforementioned <br />ninety (90) day time period, the employee shall be required to pay his proportionate share ol'the <br />cost as required within Article 28, of the A��reement. The proportionate cost shall be paid to the <br />Employer by the employee in advance on or before the first day of the month. The Employer <br />shall continue to pay its proportionate share ol'the cost as required within Article 28, of the <br />Agreement during this ninety (90) day period. After ninety (90) days, the employee shall be <br />required to pay to the Employer. the full cost ol'the cost of such hospital/surgical benefits in <br />advance on a monthly basis. commencing on the ninety-tirst (91 st) day. Any employee that fails <br />to pay his proportionate share or the full cost as described shall be dropped as a participant from <br />the group health plan flor nonpayment, as required by this Agreement. An employee that is <br />dropped from the group health plan for non-payment shall only be eligible to participate after the <br />conclusion of the leave and only upon his active return to work. Employees shall be subject to <br />all of the terms and conditions ol'the group health plan. <br />ARTICLE 22: <br />INJURY' LEAVE <br />SECTION 1: In the event that a full-time employee should be injured while in the line of duty <br />due to a sudden and accidental occurrence, and such injury has so incapacitated said employee <br />that he is temporarily unable to work, then the Director of Public Safety, after determining that <br />said injury is work-related and is of a ternporary° nature. may authorize up to ninety (90) days <br />sick leave. <br />I -or the purpose of this paragraph, a sudden and accidental injury shall include such <br />incidents as an automobile accident, assault, gunshot wound and the like. It may not be <br />considered as sudden and accidental if an injury or incapacitation results from lifting. slipping. <br />18 <br />
