Council Minutes of 06-21-2022
to explore more options such as Westcom, and urged the Administration to get a proposal from
Westcom before making any decisions.
Becky Woodward
North Olmsted Dispatcher
6804 Plainfield Avenue
Cleveland, OH
Thanked everyone for their support and proceeded to explain that no one understands the job
dispatchers do, and reiterated that at the last meeting she invited the Mayor, Safety Director and
Council to visit the dispatch center so that they could explain their concerns with regionalization,
and stated that a couple of Councilmembers did visitbut the others did not. Feels the concern
is only with what is cost-effective and not what is best for the safety of the officers and residents.
Reminded everyone of Dennis Durbin's death caused by an address guide mix-up.
Robert Briesath
6023 Decker Road
Has been a resident since 1995 and a North Olmsted Police Officer from 1990-2020. He
believes moving the dispatch center is a bad idea because having the help of surrounding cities
makes a big difference, both police and dispatch helping each other out is very important.
Noted that many times CECOMS dispatched North Olmsted Police for Olmsted Township
addresses, because they did not know the area.
Beth Vance
North Olmsted Dispatcher
4561 Broadale Road
Cleveland, OH
North Olmsted Dispatcher for 33 years. Feels that dispatch was founded on putting safety over
money and that now the lives of the residents of North Olmsted will play second -fiddle to
stretching our tax dollars. The unique knowledge of the North Olmsted dispatchers is learned
over a lifetime of being familiar with the area and can be the difference between losing and
saving a life. The dispatchers in North Olmsted have over 200 years of combined experience
and do more than just dispatch police and fire.
Steve Wolf
27132 Butternut Ridge
Lifelong resident and retired North Olmsted Policeman. Expects Council, the Administration
and the Police Department to provide the level of public protection that he provided the City
when he was a Policeman. Feels public safety will be reduced by moving to Chagrin Valley
Dispatch
Bill Saringer
6256 Surrey Drive
Lifelong resident as well as a North Olmsted Policeman from 1996-2022. Reminding all
Legislators and Directors that they have a legislative responsibility to the residents. Encourages
all of Council to collaborate with State Legislators and to ask them about O.R.C. 128 and what
happens if House Bill 445 is adopted. Also reinforced other's comments about mutual aid being
a key point with other cities.
