Council Minutes of 02-07-2023 <br />• FieldTurf has completed the new turf field for the Recreation Field House. An official grand <br />opening and ribbon cutting is scheduled for Saturday, February 25", at 1:00 p.m., with music <br />and other activities for residents. <br />• "W.O.W." — "Workout of the Week" is featured on the City's Facebook page with Recreation <br />Fitness Supervisor Kerrie Riolo. Kerrie introduces a new fitness routine each week. <br />• February is American Heart Month, a good time for all to focus on cardiovascular health. Heart <br />disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. loin the Healthy Heart Bingo to earn <br />prizes and maintain a healthy heart at North Olmsted Recreation and Senior Center. <br />• loin in the fun building a cardboard and duct tape boat on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Awards <br />presented for speed, creativity and sink -ability. Boat inspection begins at 12:30 p.m. and races <br />commence at 1:00 p.m. Boat entry fee is $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. <br />Registration closes on February 24. <br />• The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Department are planning a Nerf" Battle with the <br />North Olmsted Blaster League. You must bring your own Nerf" blaster, darts will be provided. <br />Parents can join in the last half hour of each age group. The event takes place on Friday, March <br />101h for kids ages 6-12. <br />• The 2023 North Olmsted Mayor's Art Show Opening is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2023 <br />at Old Time Hall. The show is open to the community March 9, 10 and 111h. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• The City has received $11,188.82 in settlement proceeds from the opioid class action litigation. <br />So far, these funds have been from the big three distributors of McKesson, Cardinal Health, and <br />AmerisourceBergen as well as Johnson & Johnson. Director Gareau advised Council that the <br />City does plan to participate in other class action litigations involving CVS, Walgreens, Teva, <br />Wal"Mart and Allergan. With those proceeds the City can help with abuse prevention <br />strategies, use and avoidance education, and can support recovery from addiction services. It <br />has been suggested that the Westshore Communities work together in order to pool the <br />resources and use the more effectively. <br />• Director Gareau informed Council on the Special Prosecutor Maloney who was hired a few <br />months back to investigate the City of North Olmsted's Police Officers' use of deadly force. Mr. <br />Maloney presented his evidence after the investigation by the State of Ohio, to the Grand Jury, <br />regarding the robbery at Starbucks on March 21, 2022. The Officers were exonerated from any <br />wrong -doing and no charges will be brought. <br />Director of Finance Cotter: <br />• The December 31, 2022 Summary and Detailed Financial Reports along with the Fourth Quarter <br />Review were emailed on February 2, 2023. Director Copfer also noted the permanent <br />appropriations were being presented that evening and the changes to the estimated 2023 <br />resources were also emailed.
