Council Minutes of 04-04-2023 <br />towards getting children familiar with our safety enforcement agencies, the vehicles and <br />uniforms. <br />• The North Olmsted Citizen of the Year is recognized for contributions and services rendered to <br />the North Olmsted community. This years banquet will be on Thursday, April 27", at 6:30 p.m., <br />at Springvale Ballroom. The winner is traditionally announced at the event. Registration is <br />online on the North Olmsted Community Council website. <br />• April is Adult Health and Fitness Month at the North Olmsted Recreation Center. A number of <br />events and activities are planned, including Sound Healing Yoga on Tuesdays from 7:30-8:30 <br />p.m. An Indoor Turf workout from 6:30-7:30 a.m. in the Field House on Friday, April 14, and a <br />Tai Chi Demo 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Field House on Monday, April 17. <br />• The North Olmsted Police Department recently spent $15,000 on nine Tasers and cartridges to <br />arm their auxiliary officers. The move comes to provide the auxiliary officers some form of <br />protection at their disposal. <br />• The City Recreation Center will host the annual Ice Show the weekend of May 19-21. The theme <br />of this years show is "Skating Through the Decades." <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• No Report. <br />Director of Finance Copfer: <br />• No Report. <br />Councilwoman Williamson, Chairwoman of the Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee: <br />The Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee met on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 7:01 p.m. Present <br />were Committee Members Williamson, Madden and Glassburn and Council Members Hemann, Gilchrist <br />and Scarl, Council President Brossard, Mayor Jones, Law Director Gareau, Human Resources Director <br />Kidd, Director of Economic and Community Development Upton, Safety Director Scofield, Service <br />Director Kearney, Recreation and Public Engagement Director Pinchek, Special Assistant to the Mayor <br />Massarolo. <br />• Discussed Resolution 2023-38. A Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a cooperative <br />agreement in partnership with the North Olmsted City School District to deploy an additional <br />School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) to increase public safety services, and declaring an emergency. <br />Councilwoman Williamson stated Director Scofield explained the new officer would be assigned <br />to the Middle School and the funding for the position will be split 50/50 with the school. The <br />Legislation was favorably recommended with suspension by a vote of 2-0, with Mr. Glassburn <br />abstaining. <br />• Discussed Resolution 2023-39. An Ordinance authorizing the Director of Public Safety to <br />contract for and proceed with demolition and removal of unsafe structure located at 24094 <br />Frank Street, in the City of North Olmsted, as a public nuisance, and further directing that <br />abatement costs be certified as a lien upon said Parcel 231-23-026, pursuant to R.C. 715.261, <br />and declaring an emergency. Councilwoman Williamson noted Director Scofield explained the <br />demolition was for the garage only which has been deemed unsafe and a public nuisance. The <br />property owner was notified. The Legislation was favorably recommended with suspension by a <br />vote of 3-0. <br />
