Council Minutes of 05-16-2023
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Alejandro Chock
24677 Randall Drive
Mr. Chock addressed Council with regard to the Lorain Corridor Expansion Study. Mr. Chock stated that,
although heavily advertised, he was disappointed with the lack of attendance in general, and the lack of
presence by elected officials within the first hour. Mr. Chock stated that the City seeks to reimagine the
Lorain Corridor, he stated that he has attended both public meetings thus far and has registered his
thoughts on the outreach survey several months' back, and has spoken at length to the project
consultants, some of which he knows personally to get their take on the project and a more realistic
view of what may be coming. He works in this industry and cautions the City, the Planning Department
and Council to be careful with the words transformational and generational when describing a project
that will most -likely not have sufficient time or budget to acquire significant right-of-way, directly impact
utility lines, or conduct sufficient capacity analysis. He encouraged those who are not in the industry to
use words such as foundational and first -steps. Mr. Chock enlightened Council on his thoughts on the
project, including asking the Planning Director to pay more attention to the details and drawings
presented to the project, noting the bus lines shown at the public meeting do not exist. Mr. Chock
closed by saying he supports the project and stated his position on the project on how to improve the
project.
Director of Economic Development Upton stated that the work and effort that go into a study and
project of this magnitude is a huge undertaking, and it is far easier to address Council from the podium
for five minutes of fame. Director Upton rejected Mr. Chock's suggestions and viewpoints on the
project, stating Mr. Chock had previously produced a flawed product on the project, that cost the City
additional monies to reproduce. He stated that the Administration rejects the notion that the City
should settle for less than aspirational and transformational, noting that without that outlook "we will
get the same old, same old". Director Upton stated that he and the Mayor are coordinating, and have
met with all agencies involved in this project. He also stated that he was disappointed in the turn -out as
well, being that it was the first Saturday with beautiful weather, prom, and two band concerts, and
ended with stating the City's commitment to a transformational plan.
Gary Cammuso
6097 Stafford Drive
Mr. Cammuso attended the meeting to address Council with a few concerns he has with regard to his
property and surrounding area. He asked Council why young parents feel they can walk their children in
the street with young children, stating he almost killed a child in a stroller, because the adults were
walking in the street, hidden by a parked car when he pulled out of his driveway. He also inquired about
the law for the car haulers parked in the turning lane on Lorain. The Mayor and Law Director both
advised Mr. Cammuso to call the Police Non -Emergency Line and report those individuals and they will
be cited. He also said that he saw mulch piled on a street and asked how they get away with that.
Mayor Jones asked that he speak with Safety Director Scofield to address the issues he's mentioned
today.
