Council Minutes of 01-03-2024
Lastly, The Mayor, Officer Pietro and Detective Richards provided an update on the Deer
Management Program. The Mayor reported that the Deer Management Program has been in
place since 2014. The City received 100 deer tags from the ODNR for 2024. In past years, the
first and second neighbors on each side of the culling property were notified, however, in the
past year, the Mayor requested that five properties on either side of the culling to be notified.
The Mayor also stated that the culling is done to protect the residents and for the health and
safety of the deer population. Additionally, the ODNR asks the City to do a survey every year.
The last survey was posted on the website from October 23, 2023 through November 15, 2023.
Additionally, the survey was again posted from December 20, 2023 through December 27, 2023,
with the 'Mot Applicable' choice added. A combined total of 352 people responded to the
surveys. A discussion was had with regard to extending the number of residents notified on
either side of the culling property, and what is done with the deers that are culled.
