Council Minutes of 06-18-24 <br />than ten million on parks and the ice rink, all without raising taxes. Councilman Glassburn finished by <br />stating when he joined this Council seven years ago, he was told the idea to budget ten million for any <br />kind of recreation use was impossible without raising taxes in a levy. He commended his colleagues on <br />doing just that and encouraged future Councils to keep up the effort. <br />Councilman Limpert voted yes with comment to state that he agrees with Councilman Glassburn that <br />this is a bold budget, but is looking forward to future legislation to make sure that the money spent is <br />ensured to be addressed in future budgeting to maintain the assets, to ensure they are valuable for the <br />City for a long time. Councilman Limpert also thanked the Mayor for her effort, as well as the <br />Recreation Director in working through the proposals with the community and Council. <br />Ms. Hemann voted yes with comment to state that after all her time on Council she is proud to provide <br />high-quality recreation services to the residents who have been waiting a long time, and looks forward <br />to the next steps to fulfill all of our recreation services. <br />Mr. Scarl voted yes with comment to state that as a forty -year resident he is more than happy to move <br />this project forward and supports the project 100%. <br />Mr. Madden voted no with comment to explain that from the beginning he indicated his opposition due <br />to the cost of the project. He added that he appreciates the Administration's time that was put into the <br />project, however, he just felt the cost exceeded the benefit and that was his only reason for voting no <br />on this project, but will be happy to we the park renovations occurring. <br />Resolution 2024-57 introduced by Mayor Jones was given its third reading. A Resolution authorizing the <br />Director of Recreation and Public Engagement to apply for a grant in the amount of $70,000.00 as may <br />be awarded by Play & Park Structures, as the seller and, if awarded, further authorizing the Mayor to <br />enter into a purchase agreement not to exceed $70,000.00 for playground equipment at the North <br />Olmsted City Parks. <br />Councilwoman Hemann moved for adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilman Scarl and passed <br />7-0. <br />Roll Call: <br />Yes: Hemann, Scarl, Madden, Gilchrist, Glassburn, Shymske, Limpert <br />No: None <br />Motion carried. Ordinance 2024-57 adopted 7-0. <br />Resolution 2024-59 introduced by Mayor Jones was given its third reading. A Resolution authorizing the <br />City Engineer to advertise for bids to award a contract for the Brookpark Road Underpass Improvement <br />Project (Phase Il), as detailed in the specifications on file, and authorizing the Mayor, following approval <br />of the Board of Control, to enter into a contract with the lowest and best bidder. <br />Councilwoman Gilchrist moved for adoption.
