The Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with
volunteers from Team Rubicon, the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Ohio
and Crisis Cleanup, has established a hotline for residents who want assistance in
moving tree and yard debris. Residents struggling to clear tree and yard debris can
call (330) 208-9761, to make a request. Services are free of charge and began
yesterday, August 19th. Cleanup crews will assist with cutting fallen trees and tree
limbs on private property, and with bundling and stacking debris for pickup by
municipalities, including our own. Requests will be assessed and prioritized based on
volunteer capabilities and residents' needs. North Olmsted residents who have not
done so are invited to stay prepared and informed of emergencies by signing up for
ReadyNotify, Cuyahoga County's emergency notification system.
The ReadyNotify system provides notifications for emergency events, weather alerts,
and other information. Additional information and tips about staying safe in
emergencies can be found at Ready.gov. I would also encourage our residents who
have not done so, to sign up for the city's new resident alert system by visiting our
website. You can sign up for phone, text, or email alerts.
This morning I had the privilege of swearing in our two newest police officers, Grant
Junkins and Anthony Smerk. We welcome them to our city and to our police
department.
Homecoming 2024 starts in just two days and will run from Thursday through
Sunday of this week, at the North Olmsted Community Park. Highlights of the week
include Thursday opening ceremony with the homecoming car show on the Midway,
and the North Olmsted City Schools community reception in the Big Tent. On Friday,
the Citizen of the Year will be recognized, Mr. Terry Groden. On Saturday, the Flower
and Garden Show is being sponsored by the North Olmsted Garden Club at the
Community Cabin. A taste of North Olmsted is in the Big Tent from 3:00 p.m. until
5:00 p.m. Tickets are only $15 for that. Then finally on Sunday, the homecoming
parade begins at 1:00 p.m. with assembly at the North Olmsted High School, and
immediately after the parade concludes, VFW Post 7647 will be distributing bags of
free school supplies to students in grades K through 6. Supplies will be distributed on
a first come, first serve basis. The homecoming festival closes at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Finally, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m., there will be a drive-
through free mobile produce pantry for North Olmsted residents at Maple
Intermediate School, and that concludes my report, Mr. President.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. Law Director Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law Director Gareau:
No report, Mr. President, but just a brief comment. I wanted to, again, say thank you to the
Service Department and the Police and Fire, and the Safety Department for the work that
they did.
It was two weeks ago today that we had those storms, and there was a lot going on.
From dispatch to police to fire, managing traffic, lights out all over the place. I had
driven from one end of North Olmsted to the other, just after that storm had come
through, and it was a mess. I know the service department is, even now, still working
08-20-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
