they're requiring us to have another third -party engineer look at it, which is a bunch of
malarkey bull -crap that they decided to put on. Anyway, would it be worth our while, to
challenge that in a court of law, or would we be better off not saying anything because they do
give us money, or would we be better off with a group of other cities, contact them with a
group of other cities and say, hey, what the heck, this is not what the voters wanted. You never
even asked anybody. There was no public opinion on anything regarding this.
Council President Brossard:
Mayor.
Mayor Jones:
Mr. President to Mr. Sturgeon. First, on the ODOT property, Director Kearney is often in contact
with them regarding that property. He will continue to do so and we'll follow up with them this
week on the condition of it.
Jeff Sturgeon:
Thank you.
Mayor Jones:
Next. As to the issue, I'm laughing because I'm not going to give a legal opinion, which is what
the Law Director is staring me down for, to make sure I don't. As far as your concern about the
mandate that you were just speaking about, that ODOT has passed on to local communities, I
would say that one thing that I've been active with is our County Mayors and Managers
Association and we often work as a group together to let our State Legislatures and our State
Departments know how things are actually affecting local communities and this is something
that we are gathering together that information to make sure that we're speaking as one voice
against this for sure, and we'll continue to do so. So I wanted to let you, and let City Council
know that we are actively letting them know that this is hurting local municipalities and how
that's hurting us. I would encourage you and anyone else who's interested in also voicing your
concern to your State Rep. and your State Senator as well. They fund ODOT and so even though
ODOT isn't answering directly to them, that's where you can be active and try to get those
opinions over to the legislature that funds them.
Jeff Sturgeon:
Do we know who made this decision? Was it ODOT's decision?
Mayor Jones:
It was ODOT, yes.
Jeff Sturgeon:
One person at ODOT or we don't know?
11-19-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 11
