bowls, which are created by the North Olmsted art students, will be for sale at the
registration table that evening.
Also, speaking of food, the Frostville Museum will host a winter farm market both
Saturdays in November, the 23rd and the 30th, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
And finally, Saturday, November 30th will be Small Business Saturday in North Olmsted.
I encourage everyone to take part by shopping small in our city and patronizing our
many local small businesses. These small businesses are the lifeblood of our community.
Sixty-eight cents of every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S. stays in the
community in which that business is. Small businesses are responsible for 61.1% of net
new jobs created since 1995 in our country, and small businesses employ 45.9% of the
employees in the private sector in the United States, and that, Mr. President, concludes
my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law Director Gareau:
Thank you, Mr. President. I do have a report.
The City of North Olmsted has received notice that it has been named in a complaint
before the Ohio Civil Rights Commission by Mr. Robert Ryder. He is a City of North
Olmsted employee. The allegation that's been set forth concerns a claim of retaliation,
age discrimination, and harassment. This matter has been dealt with for some period of
time by our Human Resources Department. We have filed a position statement to
answer the allegation, and I can tell you that we don't believe that the nature of this
complaint falls within the jurisdiction of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, and we
believe very strongly that the evidence that we have, and that we provided to the Ohio
Civil Rights Commission, will show that we have not engaged in any of the behavior that
has been alleged. So we would expect and hope that the Civil Rights Commission will
make a finding that there has not been such conduct on the part of the City and take no
further enforcement action against the City. We're waiting for the investigator to reach
back out and let us know, but we're confident that we will be successful with that. That
concludes my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you. Director of Finance Copfer, do you have a report this evening?
Finance Director Copfer:
Yes, I do.
The Finance Directors that are within the Rocky River Court District, had our semi-
annual meeting last Thursday, and the Clerk of Courts was there and presented their
financial position through September 30th, and also made some projections that the
11-19-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 3
