and, of course, Moen, headquartered here in North Olmsted. The State of Illinois
offered Fortune Brands a 100% job creation tax credit for the next 15 years in order to
accomplish this consolidation. This means that every dollar of new income taxes paid by
their employees will go back into the pockets of Fortune Brands. Since that
announcement, I have spoken directly with the President and CEO of Jobs Ohio, as well
as our Regional Economic Development Leadership Team at Team NEO, and will be
meeting with the President of Moen in the coming weeks. Despite the decision of
Fortune Brands, Moen has expressed to me the desire to work with the city such that
the impact is as soft as practicable. Our goal is that we facilitate the redevelopment of
the building and put it back to use as soon as possible. I will continue to keep Council
appraised of these conversations as they evolve over the coming weeks and months.
Our road crews have been busy working during this brief reprieve in the weather to
patch as many of the potholes as possible. This type of patching, that can be done in
cold weather, is not as durable as what we are able to do in the warmer months.
1 have been committed to improving our infrastructure and I'm proud to say that the
administration is asking Council to up our road improvement budget by almost $300,000
this year. However, I would ask that Council members communicate to their residents,
as best as possible, to just try and bear with us, as every city right now in this area, due
to the extreme cold and then the warmer temperatures that we've experienced over
the last few days, wreak havoc on all of our roads. Just please go a little slower so that
you don't ruin your tires and hopefully in the coming weeks we will be able to stay on
top of this.
The, every five-year process, of reviewing our Charter has begun. The Charter Review
Commission had its first meeting in January, and it currently has four more meetings
scheduled. If residents have any proposed amendments to the Charter, it is my
understanding the Commission is asking for any Charter amendments to be submitted in
advance of the meeting in which the appropriate section of the Charter is being
discussed. For more information, I would direct the public to the Charter Review
Commission information on our city website.
And finally, tomorrow night at the North Olmsted branch of the Cuyahoga County
Library, the County Board of Revision and the County Fiscal Office will be hosting a
meeting from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to talk with residents
about the process of filing a formal review request on their property. I would
recommend any resident who has questions about their property tax attend this
meeting, and, Mr. President, that concludes my report.
Council President Pro Tempore Scarl:
Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law Director Gareau:
Yes, please. Thank you. Just a brief comment.
As members of Council received, or are aware of, they had received from me a short
time ago, a formal legal opinion regarding write-in elections here in the City of North
Olmsted. I wanted to publicly state that, for people's knowledge, the Board of Elections
02-04-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
