Director Kearney:
October 1st, we're going to do the south side of Lorain from the road to where the concrete
starts. It's going to be done.
Mr. Axel Hoyer:
Well, maybe just make it concrete.
Director Kearney:
Well, it's a lot more expensive - concrete. I mean, we have the whole city in concrete.
Mr. Axel Hoyer:
I understand that. You know, but, you know, there are seams there and, you know, they just did
220 and that's all concrete. And, you know, it probably lasts a little, I don't know much about
that stuff. But at the same point in time, if you then have to redo it again, you know, because of
potholes and all that, it's just very frustrating.
Director Kearney:
They're supposed to last 20 years, Dover hasn't lasted 20 years, and that's what the deal is
and we can't afford to do the whole City in concrete, and we'd love to.
Mr. Axel Hoyer:
No, I understand. Well, just do part of Clague. [laughing]
Mr. Don Pattison:
Good evening. Don Pattison and Collette Pattison, 5806 Barton Road. We're here to observe
our first Council meeting. It's very educational, and we're happy to be here. We live directly
behind the Barton Bradley parking lot, and I've spoken to a number of City Officials about the
project and our concerns. But first, we like to say we're in general support of the project. Our
son had played soccer there for a number of years. So we like having something like that in our
backyard, but the planning process did not include the residents, and that's my main gripe right
now. I just wanted to express that, that six months ago, the City should have had a planning
meeting with the residents to get their input on the parking lot improvements. Sort of like a
design charrette. Everyone would have showed up, and we would have had a better parking lot
for the neighborhood and for the City. So I wanted to make that known. How we found out
about the project was we had stakes in our backyard, and my wife and I were wondering,
where are the stakes for? This was at the end of February. So we made a few calls and met with
City Officials, and the hopes were to move the stakes away from our backyard. And the
justification is that parking lot, all that land back there is enormous. I think the City could have
worked with us to grant a request to move the parking lot further away from our house, and so
the City mentioned that the site plan was written in stone and a done deal. So we're kind of out
of luck.
My wife and I, and a few of the residents, think we deserve better in terms of better process
and a better designed parking lot. So now that all the trees are pretty much gone, we're looking
at the future parking lot, and what kind of drew us to the area from Lakewood three years ago
04-01-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 10
