Council President Brossard:
Mayor.
Mayor Jones:
Thank you for speaking on behalf of all of your neighbors on MacKenzie, Charlene. On behalf of
your Councilwoman, Mary Gilchrist, we'll continue to work with our Safety Director, as you
mentioned. She did get that special detail, but it seems like this problem, it can't just be for, you
know, just a couple of times where an officer is sitting there. And so we will make sure to
extend that and make sure that MacKenzie gets the appropriate attention that it deserves from
our officers. In addition, we will also reach out and talk directly to our car dealerships here in
the City. Director Scofield has often had to meet with them and talk with them about other
issues, and so she will add that to her agenda as well. Director, is there anything that you
wanted to also add to the residents? Thank you.
Safety Director Scofield:
Thank you, Mayor. Mr. President, Council, Members of the Community, Jennifer Scofield,
Director of Public Safety for the City of North Olmsted. Thank you for coming. I am aware of
the issues on MacKenzie. We've had several speed details down there. We will continue to
assign speed details to MacKenzie. Regarding Mercedes-Benz in particular, we just had a
meeting with their Vice President of Operations this week about the event they had on Sunday,
April 27th. It's their first of at least four car shows that they are planning. We've had
conversations. I know there are issues with their supercars, we've met with them. We will
meet with them again. I am issuing letters to all of the dealerships on Lorain Road to let them
know about changes in state law regarding street takeovers from events like car shows. I'm
educating them and giving them fair warning. We will be dealing and continue to work with our
dealerships so that they're good corporate citizens in North Olmsted. Again, we'll get speed
signs, especially now that the weather has changed and we can get them back in the ground.
We'll get speed signs out again, and I will make sure that we have additional speed details
assigned to MacKenzie.
Mayor Jones:
Mr. President, just to conclude, many, many years ago, when I served as the Ward 3
Councilwoman, 2006 to be exact, I have a special affinity for MacKenzie because I walked up
and down the street to collect signatures of the residents, to get the mailboxes moved on both
sides of the street. Because back then, the mailboxes were just on one side, and the reason for
that was because the residents had approached the City, and had said the volume of traffic had
increased so much that it was unsafe to continue to cross and collect their mail. So it's very
disturbing to me, and I'm sure to all of Council, to learn that we continue to have a problem on
the street where people live. Obviously, I know that that is a top concern of all of yours, so we
will address this.
Council President Brossard:
Director, do you have something else?
05-07-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 12
