Tree and landscaping plants shall be a mix of deciduous and evergreen plants <br />to provide year-round interest, beauty, and screening. Trees and landscaping <br />plants shall be selected that are of good quality, require minimal maintenance, <br />and can withstand the extremes of individual site microclimates as determined <br />by the City. <br />Large shade trees must have a minimum canopy spread at maturity of <br />thirty feet (30'). <br />ii. Small shade or ornamental trees must have a minimum canopy spread at <br />maturity between fifteen feet (15') and thirty feet (30'). <br />d. Native or naturalized plants. <br />Total site: a minimum of seventy-five percent (75%) of total required <br />vegetated area on the site shall be native or naturalized plant material. <br />Existing, non-invasive vegetation may be counted toward meeting the <br />minimum requirements of this section provided it is in healthy condition <br />and undisturbed during development and construction activities as <br />determined by the City. <br />iii. A list of desirable Ohio trees and native vegetation can be found in <br />Appendix A of this Planning and Zoning Code and/or through the Ohio <br />Department of Natural Resources. <br />5. Sustainability_- Where feasible and appropriate, landscaping shall incorporate <br />sustainable practices, including: <br />a. Use of native, naturalized and pollinating species; <br />b. Use of on -site water management and infiltration through the installation of <br />bioswales, raingardens, or vegetated bioretention cells, and filter strips where <br />possible. <br />This should occur within the pedestrian zone of street rights -of -way; <br />within required parking lot screening or landscaped islands; and within <br />public open spaces. <br />Plant materials for bioswales and other vegetated stormwater features <br />shall be appropriate for wet conditions and shall be reviewed and <br />approved by the City Engineer. The City Engineer and the developer or <br />Applicant may consult with appropriate agencies for guidance. <br />iii. Use of pervious pavement and pavers is preferred in paved areas for foot <br />traffic along streets and within Public Open Spaces. <br />JANUARY 24, 2025 <br />
