two criminal, for violations of that section. The City of North Olmsted, the law department
does regularly monitor when we have anybody that's new in the community, and we do
occasionally audit to see where the registered offenders are residing. When we find them,
we do engage the police department to do an investigation, we use our engineering
resources as well to determine whether they violate the distance requirements. In this
situation, though, we had one that was scheduled to go to trial that there was a plea
bargain reached, and that individual also relocated from where they were on Westchester
with a prohibited distance to Maple School. There was a second case where they were,
he was actually too close on Silverdale, which was a violation as well, and what happened
to him is he picked up another offense and was ultimately thrown in jail; therefore I would
say that his case was abated by relocation involuntarily. And so that case was, he didn't
show up, he's in jail, there's a warrant for his arrest, I don't expect he'll be showing up,
but as far as we know he's not at that location anymore. The two civil cases, one was
dismissed by mootness, that's another individual, he moved at our demand, and there's
a fourth one we're going to move to dismiss, so point of it all is that we've got compliance
on all of these, which was our goal, and again, we'll continue to keep an eye on it. It's
worth noting that things are going to change here in the next 18 to 24 months when we
close most of our schools and consolidate, so the restrictions that we have on schools will
be noticeably different based on the fact that our schools will be consolidating, but in the
meantime, we'll continue to enforce it, so I just wanted to bring you up to date on that,
and thank you Mr. President, that concludes my report.
